I bought my very own Ordinance survey map yesterday and since it's a special day, I thought I'd go for a special ride
I plotted the route and set off! He was going so nicely, really well behaved
But then we got a bit lost...I'm not the best at reading maps, it has to be said! I made sure I stuck to bridleways and just headed in what I thought is probably the right direction. Then suddenly I found myself on the Gallops :O :O
I walked a way along, but wasn't 100% sure if I was allowed on them, even though the bridleway seemed to point that way, so I turned around (and had a very sneaky blast haha! It was amazing!) and headed down the other route that the sign pointed.
All was going really well, he was walking really nicely and I was admiring the scenery.
We turned onto a path we knew and headed towards a field with horses.
They usually ignore us, but not today...
We were almost past them, when I heard thundering hooves. Ned froze and I tried to get his attention back to me but it wasn't happening. They skidded to halt and I thought it was over, Ned seemed to relax and I asked him to walk and he took a few steps. Suddenly they all exploded - The two horses kicked out and went hooning back up the field!
Credit to Ned, he COULD have jumped the low fence and gone with them, but all he did was go backwards at 100mph! It was such a narrow path with a river on one side and Ned was instantly sweaty, I would tell he was going to lose it any second!!
I hopped off and started for home. I normally don't do that, but I've never seen him like it before!
He was a pig to lead but I didn't feel in danger anymore.
After about a mile, I managed to hop back on and go back to the field. Poor boy was obviously very shaken and it just blew his brains. I don't know what went wrong, but he's seen galloping horses before and was fine. Maybe he was offended that they kicked out at him? Who knows.
Thankfully it's a ride I can avoid for a while, I like to think I'm brave but nerves have got the better of me this time!!
Anyway, we had a cuddle and made up
