OMG what a day - finally got to ride my horses today after everything being frozen and both being off work due to injuries. I took the mare out first (16hh ISH)who hasnt been rode since oct just lunged due to injury, well started ok just joggy, went down lane for about 10mins then decided to turn back, just set off back when she decided to spook at a football net in the hedge that we had already passed AND just as a car decided to go past us - result being we sat on the back end of the car :-( Luckily no damage to horse and just a dirt scuff on the car! She didnt seem fazed so we carried on then almost back to the yard starts doing this stupid bounce on the spot, wouldnt go forwards even though I threw the reins at her and just squeezed on! Frustrating :-( Got back in one piece after this.
Took my boy out after (14.2hh Arab) less eventful just a tractor he disliked more than the ditch next to us and we met with the local shoot - men with guns = SCARY!!
Sorry for the long pointless post but slightly stressed!
Any thoughts on the bouncing on the spot thing and advice please???

daughters horse does the bouncing on the spot.she is just returning to work too so we are sticking to hacks off road and on a circuit to avoid turning for home.

In the school shes perfect but out she just gets to this point where she has a stress at nothing and wont go forward, either sideways or bounce on the spot! Ive sat and kicked and carry a whip but she just seems to go into a panic mode :-( That wasnt the case with the car though, the road wasnt wide and I knew she was going to spook but had nowhere to go and they didnt wait for us to pass.

I have to go down some portion of road wherever I hack out :-( She got really good before the time off so im just hoping its a combination of being fresh and its all new again? I just cant seem to find a way to ride her through it though as when she does it usually its on the road either going out or coming back, if I just knew what triggers it that would be a big help but its never the same thing :-( Shes a fab horse and been well schooled but fell into bad hands just before I bought her, took me ages to get any trust from her.
