As my horse is off work this season with a bone chip to his hind leg I have been offered a mare form my yard to ride and do what I want with. Her flat work is fine (prelim/novice), her showjumping is fine (used to be grade B) but has been beaten A LOT (she really panics if she hits a fence and generalyy rushes) XC I dont know anything about only that she has been schooling once (dont know if she was beaten then or not) and can be quite nappy.

Do you think it is worth competing her this season (would only do unaff) or will it be too much for her?

Am going to try and take her to some dressage only soon ish to see how she copes them maybe do a few sponsered rides?

(also in Comp riders)

wel i think i'd just take her to tiny xc schooling for a while just bomble around and keep it all lovely and relaxed, ie walk around and step over logs etc until she starts to trust you a bit, then build up to trot work etc, sounds like it could take some time to get her over the beatings and i think i;d stay away from any competitions until shes totally settled schooling xc. if shes fine sj and dressage then just do that over the summer then maybe a some ode's at the end of the seaon if shes settled,

thanks lizzieuk thats what I was thinking. She just gets genuinely terrifyed if she hits a fence/ has to stop. its horrible to think someone has beaten her that much, she has been with her current owner for 2 years and is just starting to get over what happened before now (shes 15-horse not owner)
