We went to Ede this year and in comparison to Weston the year before there was not a lot of difference in costs. The entry fee worked out to be just over £200 which included stabling and a meal ticket for two for 3 meals for the duration of the event! This was in comparison to Weston charging (and other UK events) £480 for entry and stabling.
I did get a cheap ferry crossing via a haulage friend but I think the crossing was something like £300.
In all I would thoroughly recommend it being great fun and certainly not as expensive as you think. We are hping to go to Portugal next year in the Spring and then maybe Ede again. Pm if you want any further info re costs, paperwork etc.
I haven't done one.. although i did enter Ede in Holland (had to w/d as didn't qualify in time).. but the way i see it, is it's cheaper as the entry and stabling fees are less that half the price out there.. ie entry plus stabling for Blair £400.. entry plus stabling for Ede £160... the fuel is cheaper out there too.. so what you save on travel and entries, you spend on the ferry..
no contest get your butt over here! you get so much more for your money that the ferry crossing is the least of your worries esp as milbrook said you share with some one. Some events on the continent are better than others PM me if you want and i will give you my number here to call if you want to discuss anything in detail. i have probably been to most of them.
yep, it's not as much as you'd think. the big boys often have spaces in their lorries and will let you hitch a ride (might have to take a tent though). i did Bonn Rodderberg years ago, had great fun, and got the ferry and diesel and most of entry and stabling costs refunded anyway. it was amazing. really good entertainments and parties too...
it only took 10 hours to get there, would have taken longer to go to that one that's at the top of Scotland. (is it Burgie? i get them muddled)
