Could you advise me on charges for competing a horse at OPN / N level BE?
Horse would need to be on full livery.

Need to sell my horse, but thinking of sending him to be ridden by eventer and competed to improve his BE record so I have a better chance of selling him?
Any advice / ideas??

youwould need to pay for any equipment, entry fee's, registering the horse to be etc plus livery fees which vary on how established an eventer is, i think a few on here compete others so they will give you more specific info. where are you in the uk?
 
An estimated figure would be £100 a week to be ridden on top of livery plus comp fees and rider comp fee. So a lot of money! were about in the country are you?

Would prob register him on a day ticket to save expense of full registration.
Would that work or would it be better to loan him out?

You could just reg him for half the season, so you'd save money if he did several events rather than keep forking out for tickets.
 
It's a difficult decision, and in your place I would be brutally honest with myself about the horse's current value, it's expected value once it has competed BE and the costs of getting there.
I am doing exactly the same as you this year with 2 ponies, and am absolutely clear about my expectations about them competitively and the timeframes involved.
You have to be so careful about what your horse does with the copetition rider, if he has a couple of green stops, it will affect his value, so you need a rider who is as guaranteed to be successful as possible. Unless you know someone like this or can get a reliable referral then you are taking a chance.
I use a local eventing rider who is simply brilliant, who will educate ayoung horse quickly and kindly and just gets results. If you want her details I'll PM you.
 
Between £120 and £140 a week livery
£16 for a day ticket
Between £50 - £60 for entries. (PN/N)
£10 start fee
depending on distance £10 - £20 fuel to event.

So if your horse arrived on the yard on the Sat, for an event the following Sat, that's going to cost you £220+

Some riders charge to ride at events, some don't... tophorse, i've never heard of anyone asking for you to pay for equipment??
 
I know quite a few people in the Midlands who would do it no problem. They all charge between £120 and £200 a week, then £1/mile diesel split between all horses on the lorry, some charge £10 - 20 per ride at an event and then there are your entry fees, start fees, some riders do charge a lump sum to cover studs/ice tight etc but normally if horse is there all season and thats about £100. Then all the other usual - farrier, vet, dentist, physio etc etc.

Its expensive - worth it if you have a decent horse even if not a world beater but good at his level and the proven competition record will add to his value. Few professionals will take something for a week then compete it, they like to have it for a while, produce it then compete it to get the best result and often want to take it to BSJA shows - £6 a ticket + entry and more diesel etc and XC schooling etc.

You end up with a beautifully produced horse that may be easier to sell but whether it has added to the value and made you money is a different thing!
 
Quite a few of the yards I work for charge a kit one off fee - usually £100 for the season, the horses use their stuff but that over the course of a season covers the costs of anything that needs replacing or the grease/ice tight used.
 
I sent my horse to a good event rider last year, only young but has ridden round Badminton and is very stylish.

She charged £20 per day for the competition livery, plus any costs incurred by her for my horse, ie entry fees, diesel etc.
I only sent him as i broke my ankle just before the season, and wanted him to compete....did end up costing me a grand or so!!
