With only 31 days to go before the first event everyone on our event team are getting a little excited....inc the horses!!

However one of our riders thought I was a bit crazy at being overly organised with having a lorry check list, event plan and organising a full event day run through the week before our first event?? Please someone tell me i'm not crazy but just very organised.

As soon as we have times for the event (as we are taking multiple horses) I've planned a full run through -
Everything where it should be in the lorry, dressage preparations, run through test in arena, change for SJ, a quick SJ round a fairly scary course, change for XC, XC practise (canter round the farma and XC practice field for 5-8mins), then wash down, bandages etc. Making sure all horses and riders are where they should be at the right times, all have correct kit etc

Please tell me someone else does this or similar????

no, but i guess if i had a 'team' with lots of different horses, perhaps new grooms or working pupils, etc etc, i might want to have a run-through to be sure it goes smoothly and nobody loses it. can't hurt to be super-organised, after all. good luck this season, if Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance, I think you've got it sewn up!

YES! I make up a timetable for the day, I have a coursewalking notebook (combined with taking photos it REALLY helps), I have a trailer/car/person checklist and plan what I'm going to do each day for eight days before and three days after the event. I also make colour coded month plans with lessons, schooling, comps and non-riding comittments, which i blutack on the wall next to my BE wall planner...anal, moi?? :D :D

OMG i'm not mad after all! I love keeping the colour coded diary too. I think when you are taking at least 2 horses for 1 rider you need to be organised - I would hate to have the rider on the wrong horse! Or dread the through of getting there without enough numnahs or boots or heaven forbid loo roll!

I do have an A4 page with a checklist of everything that needs to be packed in the car.

Once I have been to a couple of shows, I tend to end up packing everything then run through the list to see if I have forgotten anything.

I think if you are prepared then if someone happens you are more able to cope with it without getting stressed! And stress does lead to worse scores!

i am going to do a timetable for the day/.. even though i am one horse rider, i am bad at keeping track at time, and this can make it very stressful especially as my mum is not at all horrsey...
i will timetable everything from getting dressed and course walking... and timetable my mum.. stuff like filling water buckets..
basically.. i dont think you can ever be too organised.. it just makes the day so much nicer!

yes, must admit i do have a detailed timetable, sort of what time to start getting horse ready, exactly what time to get on, how long to warm up, etc etc. i can't stand being rushed so i like to have everything timed to perfection.

I worked for an eventer last year and with 5 horses at all the events we had to be organised. The most important thing is a list in time order on the day...Couldn't live without it! One day, I was on my own as headgirl was left at home and the other girl was ill so the list helped me have every item for each horse. So it had correct tack ready to be thrown on or swapped!
