Hi all,

I'll be coming across from Australia in July for a month. Unfortunately I'm not going to have much time to indulge in my horsey passion, but these are the dates where I may be able to do something.

11
12
18
19
20 (All July dates)

We'll be based around Weymouth at those times (other times off travelling into other parts of the UK).

Are there are competitions on at those times? I'm particularly interested in dressage but would watch most horsey events.

We'd also like to visit a stud or two in or around the New Forest if that's at all possible. Is that sort of thing done in your country?

Finally...what horsey shops do I look for, and where are they?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello Ozbug, please bring lots of sunshine with you!

Calendar on here for you to look at. http://www.sporthorsegb.co.uk/calendar.aspx

if you're here at the end of the month the Royal International is on but a bit of a distance away from Weymouth but since you'll have been half way round the world don't let a few hours drive put you off.

I couldn't see anything on the dates you've specified on British Dressage website but i must admit i didn't look awfully closely as i'm very tired

Have a lovely trip, Weymouth is great, we often go there for an afternoon on the beach x

ps, i don't like shopping so can't recommend any but would warn you some are bloody expensive, but saying that i have no idea what tack costs over there!

Another who hopes the sunshine is here for your visit, a useful local site to look through is www.nfed.co.uk it covers the New Forest area and will have dates of shows and events also local shops or places of interest.
You are going to miss the New Forest show which is at the end of July but there is bound to be something of interest to go and see.
There is racing at Brighton on July 18th if that is of any interest, dressage at Moreton on the 12th, although it is not on your dates there is dressage at Hickstead on the 17th which goes up to GP level and would be a great day out.

Also at Moreton Equestrain Center Pony Club Eventing on the 20th/21st July it is a proper BE course so worth a walk round.
Ask again nearer the time might be able to tell you of others.

Thanks for the responses!

Things are ridiculously expensive over here in Australia. A lot of our stuff is imported from the UK and Europe, and quite often we find it's cheaper just to mail order it, than to buy it from the suppliers here. Sometimes they have an exclusive deal which means there will only be one distributor of a certain brand, and you keep being pointed back to them. Other times it is just overpriced rubbish.

For a brand like Weatherbeeta, after currency conversion, there's a price difference of over 67 GBP. I appreciate the wages are different too, and that would make a difference. I'm not about to bring rugs back with me, but some smaller items might be ok. I'd love to pick up a Passier Young Champ dressage saddle while I'm over there :D

We are in our second month of Autumn here. We've had sunny days and cold nights until yesterday when the heavens opened! Still, it makes a difference from summer which was very hot (lots of fires).

I'll do my best to order some sunny weather for my trip. I have been warned!
