At the yard I give riding lessons with a saddle borrowed from the yard, and my own bridle. I put my leathers, stirrups, saddle pad and girth on it. It's one of those saddles that has a short girth and no one was using it as there were no girths to fit it. Now, since I'm borrowing the saddle myself, I don't mind people borrowing the kit I've put on it, but I really, REALLY object to people leaving my stuff lying around on the floor and then getting arsey when I lock my stuff up. I MEAN!! It's not like the saddle is even theirs to begin with, let alone the bridle! WTF makes people think they're entitled to use other people's stuff and treat it like cr*p?! I've now taken back all my stuff and I don't care who thinks it's petty. Sod them. They can buy their own stuff

I've got this problem too - people think that because I work part time in a tack shop (TBH I've hardly ever taken wages out of it cause I spend 4 hours in there pondering what I could possibly not need next) and get a pretty good discount that it's alright to use all of my shampoo etc as I get it cheap. Eh hello - I'm not working so the rest of you can have the cleanest horse on the yard with my feckin shampoo. The nerve of some people - I would NEVER go into someone elses box and use their stuff without asking first if it was alright and I'd always then make sure it went back in the condition it came out in. Sorry rant over.

My yard is SHOCKING for people not having their own stuff... I mean... there was ONE woman who didn't even have a headcollar for her horse. She once got arsey that the tack room was locked when she wanted to ride. Erm HELLLLLOOOOO!! There's nothing in there that belongs to you!!!

God, I think I'll be ranting all day at this rate!

I was thinking the same this morning but not about my tack. I am so lucky to have a yard just down the road that I have sole use of. In return I look after YO's horse (treat it as my own) as it is their second home and they are only there during the shooting season. But of course over time I have been asked to clean the two holiday cottages every Saturday all through the summer and I have got to look after their seven dogs over Christmas. I am obliged to say yes because I am so grateful to have the yard for free but sometimes I just think it would be nice to pay for a livery somewhere and be done with it.

They don't do they? They seem to think it's their right to use your stuff

Yes, and don't seem to care if they trash it!

I find most people here don't even look after their own stuff (or horses!) so why should they look after mine?! Perhaps they think I'm rich, when in fact (like most horse people, I think) I've been hoarding for years!

Really? That sucks

I don't blame you for locking your stuff up!

That is so rude - you're in no way being petty taking your stuff - it's yours to take! It's them being totally disrespectful - I wonder what they'd do if they walked in the tack room to see their stuff all over the place

My old YO used to take my brushes and put them in with her own then have a go at me for going through her things. I put them in a locked box which led to the chain of events which made me leave!!
