Sometimes circumstances dictate that you have to sell. It looks like you're in that situation, unless you can source a good youngstock livery. A 2 year old shouldn't be on its own, on grass or on mud. You may regret the decision to sell from a personal point of view, but you can take comfort in the fact it's what the horse needs.

I would sell, reassess what you want eg a riding one, another youngster etc and then organise your land,( how much land have you available?) to be suitable for all year turn out for 2 or 3, or make arrangements with a farmer or livery to have summer grazing so your field is rested. As others have said, a youngster should not be on its own and is verging on cruel (imo).
Sorry it may not be what you want to hear, but you obviously have doubts about your set up for a youngster, to even contemplate selling, so you are thinking what is best for your horse.

Sell or youngstock livery. I have two that age and they love to play and socialise. There are days when they canter around just for fun, and there’s a lot of playing.

Your land would probably cope better with a smallish riding horse and a pony companion as they would run around less and churn it up less.
