Hi

I met a very nice lady today who has just got into doing Trec and I was asking her about it so I thought i'd share with you my findings....sounds interesting...anyone don't it before? In NE scotland there isn't any so she's going to do a taster course.

If I've got it right day one is like an orientering course with different levels starting at 12km. Day two involves two different sessions a) a 150metre stretch which you need to canter at the slowest pace poss without breaking into a trot. On returning down the 150m walk as fast as you can without breaking into trot. b) is an obstacle course and you're getting judged going over ditches, opening gates etc. All obstacles are optional!

Hope i've got it right. Thinking of going to the taster day on Saturday September 13th at Knock Farm, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

If anyone wants to go or join me let me know and i'll pass on details in the mean time if anyone can fill me in more on the sport that would be great.

There's lots of info on the BHS website about TREC which might be handy for you.

If you are doing the beginners level 1, then usually everything takes place on the same day. Levels 2 and above usually over the two days.

You're spot on with the summary of the control of paces and the obstacle course sections. It's great fun, gets you out and about and I think is a great schooling ground for horses too

one day sounds good - the diary is full as it is. A do some pleasure rides as well so thought this might be quite a good thing to do - however, not sure about the judging side of things.

i think i'll go along and see for myself!

thank you for confirming the obstacle course and control of paces bit - wasn't overly certain

Have a go - it's great fun! I did it on my slightly potty TB mare and still got placed 5th. We would have been higher exept I took a wrong turn in the orienteering bit. D'oh!

Should have said, all obstacles are optional as you said in your initial post. Just make sure you tell the judge you won't be attempting the obstacle when you get to it, otherwise you get disqualified and lose all your marks.
