There have been far too many sad post in here recently and it is so upsetting at how quickly your best friend can be taken away from you.

Please, everyone go and give their horse/pony a big hug and a carrot tomorrow. xx

I always hug my Sham whether she likes it or not.

Last year I lost my beautiful mare to a sudden illness. One day I had a happy healthy horse, the next day an empty stable.

They look so big and strong, but they're so fragile.

I was thinking the same way today.. Luckily the moody mare was in a rare affectionate mood so I made the most of being able to cuddle her :)

Please hug with caution! I was thinking about hugging my ginger git the other day, next thing I was dangling by the collar from his teeth...was quite shocked & scared by it as was totally uncalled for, so went & had a cuddle with one of the others..gave her a really big squeeze just as she moved suddenly foreward &downward ..followed by 5 mins of faces, rolley eyes & OMG YOU TRIED TO HUG ME TO DEATH faces...actually...she had moved to try & sneak the carrot out of my back pocket so kind of not ALL my fault...and had to have a shock therapy carrot, so she was rather pleased with her work all in all!:D

I hug and kiss my girlie every single morning and night! Just as I did my old boy. I have never forgotten what it was like to lose him, and what it means to me to know I hugged him and kissed him to my hearts extent throughout our ten years together. :)

So true, my daughters pony dropped dead in the field on 1st July. Even though he was oldish, 17, it was totally upexpected. I had taken her for a hack two days previously, up the mountain, me running beside her, with a leadrope just in case. Popeye got his hugs when we came back and again on saturday, thankfully, as he never did get to see Sunday. Horrible lesson for a 7 yr old to learn. We were heartbroken. She now has joey, but still always talks about Popeye. joey gets his hug every day, even when he's dragging her across the yard at the bale of haylage, lol. (The really sad part is, she hugs the life out of him every evening, expecting every day to be his last, as she's still afraid after Popeye) :(

Do it everyday, whether he likes it or not!

Recently spend 2 weeks away from him in hospital and it was the hardest 2 weeks ever, particularly as I was reading posts on here about people losing their horses and all I wanted was to see his fluffy face!

Yes please do.

Had a scare Xmas eve with severe colic .... And yest (Saturday) he just didn't seem himself. Off to the yard to check on him again shortly, hopefully he will be feeling better.

Lots of hugs!

I hug Neddy lots every day :)
I think he likes it, he really didn't at first! He knew hugs were coming and he'd turn away (not to kick, just in protest). Now he walks over and puts his head over my shoulder :) I love cuddles from pony!

Yes I was just thinking last night how many sad losses there have been over the last few weeks on here...not that every loss isn't sad. I usually thank mine most nights for that day if we've had some fun together and even if we haven't! Just for being him really and makes me appreciate the fact that I'm lucky enough to own a horse let alone on that day have a healthy and happy one.

I'm 41 and I honestly don't give a monkeys who hears me with my herd of chubbybums.
It's odd you should post this thread as I have been gutted about other people's losses on here lately and I have a bad feeling in my gut. Paranoia?

*shudder*

I'm sure it is just paranoia. Last week I got to the yard and the ginger beast was laid down in the mud. My heart sank as i've never seen him lay down other than to roll. He saw my car, jumped up winnying and trotted down to me :) What a relief!

I never see anyone else hug their horses, its just me! xx

I am away tomorrow and New Years Day. I will really miss my horse, but although I can't give him a hug, I will be thinking about giving him a hug, and his lovely smiling face and how beautiful he smells :o

I gave him a hug today and he affectionately wiped his linseed covered mouth all over my top :)

I havent hugged mine in a week now! Mostly because i feed them in my work clothes and they're so muddy but today its sunny and tomorrow is my day off so hugs all round :D

Since losing my two just before Xmas Im obsessed with checking up on and cuddling my two remaining boys. Its still really early days for me and Im reluctant to let these two out of my sight :-(

I say to my horse 'kiss!' and he plants his muzzle right on my face.. he's not quite got the hang of aiming for my lips haha

I'm sure he must be so humiliated doing it in front of the others but he is so eager to please he does it anyway! :D

Mine does not do public dispays of affection - tried the cuddle thing today and the fecker bit me so will stick to blowing kisses from now on :D

Yearling - hug, nah, will do strokes and scratches.

Two year old - hug, nah, is teething, not adverse to a hug but you're likely to find part of you being 'tested' by his teeth so makes more sense to see where the end of his head is!

Three year old - hug, yep, all day long thanks, and will drop his head down your back to hug you back.

20 year old - hug, you must be joking, I'm OFF!

After the sudden loss of my eldest daughters horse on the 15th of this month, it was good to know that the last time i saw him i DID give him a big hug. Although what he really wanted was probably more dinner.
Nico loves a hug, hubbys big mare preferes her bum scratched. His little welsh a likes her withers scratched, as does Sunny my youngest daughters horse.
