My 19yr old has always been a bit of a bully, but has recently been absolutely evil to my 40yr old. She is hell bent on keeping her as far away as possible from the 3yr old!

Poor old tego has had 7 bells knocked out of her and has been chased all over. :(

all three are mares and this is the second episode of violence.

A few months ago it was the youngster being kept away from the pensioner!

any ideas bar separation?

I love her, but my god she made me so angry tonight.

xx

Oh I think you have to move her. I don't believe in telling off oldies and I don't agree with them having to live hard lives like this at their age. I have some horses in their late 30s and there's no way I'll stand for other horses bullying them, which is why they always live with the youngsters nowadays. I'm sorry and I'm sure it makes things easier if they were all to live together but no way would I allow that sort of bullying to go on, especially with these really old horses bearing the brunt of it.

Yeah. The field has a large Strip at the bottom that tego can go into. .. I just hope she stays in for once. Anytime its been closed off I find her back on the wrong side. They Are ok when I'm not there: tego on one side of the field, w and w on the other.

So have you experienced this with any of your mares SF?

whisper did something similar with another mare last year: kept herding her away from everyone else in the field.

whisp and tego have lived together for over 10 yrs! :(

The separation is going to cause an issue when I go ou

So, I sneak into the field in full stealth mode to shut the gate and keep whisp and willow away from Tego... and what do I see?!

All three in the bottom corner of the field.:rolleyes:

Will still separate them off, but was hoping to do so stealthily while they were appart: when they see me that's when Whisp goes bananas.

Nothing is ever straight forward.

My oldest horse thinks he is a stallion  He actually gets himself into trouble if I have some of the others in with him. I've tried him in with others over the years and the problem is he goes in there all gung ho! and then sometimes the others don't like it, sometimes they don't mind, so it's all been a case of trial and error. I've always been ready to get him out of there if they don't like his screeching and striking because I know they could easily do him damage but he doesn't know it! For the past few years though he just lives with other old horses and the youngsters and that suits them all. He can still think he's king of a herd but it's safe for him to be so, and it's safe for the others in his field because in reality he's soft as marshmallow :)

Well I give up! All three have been quietly grazing together all day. Whisper and tego were on one side if the fence and willow on the other?! Tegi is now on her own... but tried to kill me 4 times... as she is clearly in season! Squirting and winking! At 40 yrs old?! Are you kidding me?! Days like these I long for a quiet life with geldings. Xx
