Some of you might have seen the post with that 'wild pony' youtube vid before, well since then i've just been looking round it and i somehow came across a vid of horse slaughter. It wasn't titled anything to do with horse slaughter, it was supposed to be to do with NHE which is a kind of NH method but not the conventional type.
Anyways god i feel so sick ive never seen how they do it before its awful. Dont really know why im posting this... i just dont really know what to do with myself now, i'm shaking. I stopped it half way through too lol might have had a heart attack if i carried on.

I am so sorry you saw this. There is a way of alerting youtube of sick videos and inappropriate videos. There are some nasty people out there.

I do not think I have seen this one, but there are others showing horse slaughter and horse accidents which I have had to stop too. I also felt shaky and sick.

Try not to think about it and think of something pleasant and take some deep breathes.

The feeling will fade and I am sorry you came across this.

hugs xx

i closed the window when they started zapping another one i dont want to post the link i really dont think anyone else would want to see it but good point i will go and find it again so i can flag it. i've already flagged one today tho, ppl will think i go round looking for cruelty to horses haha.

Thanks hb6 i will go and look for some nice vids of prancy arabs lol.
Its made me more against horse slaughter than ever though, before i was just against live horse slaughter transport but now i realise its not as quick as they make out at the best of times.

No People will not think you have gone around looking for cruel horse videos. I blame the people who put them on - even the ones which are trying to ban the practise, there are ways and ways of getting a point across.

What if a young child came across such horror? Its irresponsible posting of videos.

I have innocently been looking at horse videos and come across similar.

Unfortunately, the killing of any large animal is not pleasant, but it should not be put on a site where children and innocent bystanders can come across.

I think you should strongly complain to youtube about this, you sound like you have been traumatised.

I do not use youtube anymore because of these vids.

PS SOmethingorother, good idea, go and look at some prancing arab horses. There is one on there called 'naughty toffee' which makes me laugh everytime.

Sadly horses do have to be slaughtered. Woolly minded 'horse lovers' in America succeeded in having horse slaughter in abbatoirs banned, so now horses are shipped (often over horrendous distances) to Mexico, where the slaughter methods are as far from humane and as close to torture as is possible to imagine. It is far from pretty to watch (and I have no idea why it is on YouTube, or even which video you are referring to), but a necessary evil.

So you saw the naughty toffee, isnt she brill and naughty?

Glad it made you feel better.

You are right, that little pony really did know what she was doing! LOL

Sooty, I have to disagree with you, why is there a need to slaughter horses, I wasnt under the impression that horses were consumed in america

i disagree aswel, perfectly healthy horses do not need to be slaughtered. I cant believe anyone would send a healthy horse to slaughter, i dont understand it other than they get paid. But most of those horses could be sold to someone who would love them and work with them if they have problems. Whilst those horses are being killed others are being bred to feed the houndreds of people looking for horses. I know they kill them for meat in other countries and they are just like cows but really i'm opposed to all animal slaughter, ive seen turkeys on tv being killed by electric zapper things similar to in the video i saw with the horses, and it takes a good few seconds to kill them, sometimes more than one attempt... surely theres a quicker way?

In a perfect world that'd be the case...but sadly without horse slaughter we'd be seeing a lot more abandoned/poorly treated/unhealthy equines.

Here, here!

I dare say if the Brits started eating horse's we would have fewer crap horse's standing in fields doing sweet FA with their life. I am in no way against the slaughter of horse's, it's no different than killing a cow, a sheep or a chicken. The British seem to put more importance on 'cuddly animal' like dogs and horse's but don't give a damn about how badly their bacon has been treated before it ends up on their roll!

I agree all animal should be slaughtered in the most humane way possible but often that is not commerically viable, I do wonder how many of the people that moan about horse slaughter are either a) vegetarian or b) only eat animals they have witnessed being slaughtered humanely.

If I had a child that had access to the internet and youtube I think the sight of animal slaughter would be the least of my worries, the happy slapping and violent pornography would concern me far more.

Silverspring is correct, horses are livestock not pets. They dont have to be consumed by humans either, they could be for the pet food industry or supplying elsewhere. It is disgusting to travel any animal 100's of miles in a truck just to have it slaughtered. In this day & age they can be shipped on the hook.

silverspring, just to point out i am vegetarian for that very reason, have been since i was 14. I dont see what is wrong with horses being in feilds doing nothing as long as they are healthy and i dont see why you are against 'crap' horses as long as they arn't used for breeding. In fact many 'Crap' horses are very loved and happier than a lot of 'good' horses which are stressed out from too much racing/ competition and have ulcers/ immune problems from this stress. I certainly dont think these 'crap' horses should be slaughtered! They are probably happier doing nothing in a field.
Most formal opposition to slaughter of livestock and horses is against live transport which i agree is the worst part of it, but seriously if you had seen that video you would understand why people get so upset about slaughter in general.

i can't believe i've just read this.......

the need to slaughter them is because there are
A..far too many bred in the first place.
B..there is a market for horsemeat.
C..there is IMO no difference in the HUMANE slaughter of a horse/pony than a cow..

and bease of the wolly minded tree-huggers, the poor things are now transported thousands of miles to terrible hell-holes in Mexico at worst...at best Canada..

take a peek at the REAL world on Animal Angels website.....

but be warned..it isnt pretty...

What is the animal angels website?

I dont think those slaughter videos should be banned because its your choice to watch it or not. It is mostly for drumming up support against horse slaughter. Its not glorifying it. Just like animal welfare organisations put videos of seal clubbing and dog and cat skinning on their websites to show what they are fighting against.

Some guy I knew once sent me a link and said see how long you can watch this. The vid was of a dog being skinned alive and I had to stop when it was still just barely moving after its skin had been pulled off, you could see it blinking because its eyelashes were intact. Sorry to gross people out but that was the worst vid I have ever seen in my entire life. I think he said it went on to show another dog and a cat but yuck I couldnt watch no more.

totally agree..things like that SHOULD be highlighted...beit horse slaughter/cows/pigs/sheep/goats....anything..

EVERY living creature that is destined for slaughter should be treated with respect...and aboe all...slaughtred as near as possible to its place of rearing...NOT transported from Australia to Saudi Arabia....Argentina to Israel...Scotland to Greece..Poland to Sicily..

Apart from horse consumption, what about horses being slaughtered for any other of a dozen reasons? Old age, illness, lack of funds, behavioural problems etc etc. No different the world over; there will always be a need to slaughter horses, but no reason why it can't be carried out humanely.

Do you own a horse? Are you intending to keep it for life? If so, presumably you will have it humanely pts at the end. There is no difference.

well yes it's not the first video i've watched of animal abuse and slaughter(and unlikely to be the last), but it should be marked as such at the very least!! not on someone's profile on youtube as being to do with NH.
Can i just point out that all this talk of transport, no1 has said that its a good thing to transport these animals for miles, i think we are all in agreement that the live export of horses for slaughter (and other animals) is wrong and horrible.

Good god i cant believe how far this topic has gone. Just to say the point was:
a) I was shocked and upset by the video (and i stand by that any horse loving person would be upset by seeing a horse being zapped no less than 3 times, scrambling around and struggling to stand twice before it stayed on the floor twitching and flailing for 30 seconds before they hung it up)
b) I found it an inhumane way of doing it
c) no one has said that it's not more cruel to travel them.

in England it is still legal to slaughter horses here. All the british campaigns i know of are to stop the LIVE transport. However that doesn't mean that the act of slaughter itself is not absolutely horific to watch (maybe those of you who are saying it is humane have not seen such videos).

The video you saw was probably not made in Britain. Perhaps it was somewhere in Europe. Perhaps there are exceptions but I think in this country the humane side of slaughter is closely monitored whether it be cows or horses.

I have not seen the video, however I have seen horse slaughter, it is not as horrific as the video you described. It is my understanding that horses in the UK are usually slaughtered by a bullet rather than by the electric stun gun.

Whats Webbox?

I also have to say that it is not appropriate viewing for young children.

It is fantastic that there is this expose on this evil inhumane slaughter, but it should not be available for young children to see.

For goodness sake, an adult saw it and was traumatised.

What I object to as an animal lover, humanitarian and vegetarian is the way all animals are reared in factory farms, handled, transported and slaughtered whether they are horse, cow, sheep or hen etc

They should be able to live a natural life in the open air with food, water and shelter, have a minimal journey to the slaughter house with humane and dignified treatment and final slaughter.

I am intending to keep my horse for as long as possible, through thick and thin and when his time comes (which I hope to goodness is not for a very very very very long time), I hope he will suddenly fall asleep in his field or stable, but if not, if he is suffering and there is no medication or treatment, he will be pts at home without a long journey in familiar surroundings and with dignity and compassion. This is a long way from the hell that other poor unfortunate animals have to suffer.
