I wonder if anyone could tell me who to contact to express an interest in offering a retirement home to an ex cavalry or carriage horse. We have a fantastic home to offer with the company of our older mares and would only be looking to do very light hacking. Any advice would be much appreciated

mm, dont know but my OH had an ex cavalry mount, but he was in the cavalry before. i'll ask him later if no-one else can tell you

Not a clue, but make sure you end up with a CB

Write to the head man (don't know which rank is top!

) of both the Household Cavalry and the Royal Horse Artillery and I'm sure requests will be passed on to those that matter. If you start at the top it'll get through somehow!

We competed at the royal tournament at Melton Mowbray a couple of weeks a go and talked to a girl there ,who had one.
They retire them at about 13 years old [can be older] and you can apply for one, she had a gorgeous one called Platinum[ spotted roan with white mane and tail]The vet part is at Melton for the army and training is done there so try writing there

Get their no. off the net and give them a call.

My friend has one - he used to work for them - and they are always looking for good homes for the ones that have lots left to give.

I work for above said charity in Bucks where some of the cavalry horses retire, pm me if you get stuck and i will see if i can pass on some names and numbers.
