Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of an instructor in Bedfordshire area (or travels around the area) who specializes or has good results with training ex racehorses?

My boy has been out of training for 2 years now but still has his racehorse tendencies or quirks. Currently having lessons with a dressage trainer but not really getting much from them and they are proving very expensive when im coming away feeling like I haven't really achieved anything!

TIA guys :) x

I don't think you necessarily need a trainer that specialises in ex racers. I think you just need to find an instructor that you like and that gives you the feeling that you are progressing. I have an ex racer and have lessons predominately with ' my' instructor but I also attend clinics with other instructors that I like. We don't treat the horse as an ex racer we just deal with and try to improve the horse ( and my riding!!) as you would if you were having lessons on any horse. Good luck x

Think it's Bucks not Beds (although he does travel) but would highly recommend Simon Battram who is based at Bury Farm. He helped me get started in dressage with my quarter horse that had been shown western - he's very good at developing the talents that a horse has rather than focusing on its shortcomings.

Simon Battram is amazing.

But another one slightly out of Bedfordshire is Louse Robson based near Buckingham. She is Thoroughbred Dressage. currently has two of the Queen's ex-racers, one has just made it's PSG debut
