Quite a lot of trainers advertise on horsemart, or there's Source an Ex Racehorse website. If you are on facebook there's Derek Shaw Racing Ex Racehorses who currently have a few up for rehoming, also Jim Boyles Ex Racers. Also worth a look on Jumping For Fun website's classified section. Also try the Ex Racehorse Club forum, some on there.

Where are you based?
My boss gets phone calls out of the blue regularly asking after horses coming out of training. If we have anything he thinks suitable for the rider he invites them up if not sometimes will take their details and call them as and when.
Id say thats your best bet.

I'm not against speaking to trainers at all. I just thought it'd be less hassle if there was somewhere central I could look.

I like them little and red if at all possible, and must be a mare as will put in foal for some time out before re-directing said mare to the eventing circuit in a couple of years time... In an ideal world, obviously.

probably an obvious point, but surely you dont want something that retired due to injury for future eventing, unless the injury was very mild and in that case it probably wouldnt have been retired?

there is a classified section with for sale ads. If you register on the forum and log in you should be able to access the ex racehorses rehoming forum where all are ex racers looking for genuine homes and are under £1500

Quick hijack (sorry OP!) I've registered on the forum but still cannot access all the pages - I was expecting some sort of confirmation email following which I'd have access - have I completely misunderstood the process? :D

I have ended up with 2 from the exracers club (although one not an exracer!!). Lots of lovely people, very helpful and knowledgable, and alot of the horses are ones that forum members have known/worked with etc :)

Have pm'd you as I know someone who sells ex racers, and she has a young chestnut mare that needs a home asap.

The person who approves new reg's works in the racing industry so has been a bit busy over the last few weeks - please send me a PM with your chosen usernames and I will get your memberships approved for you.

MRussell, I've done it too - Username, Itsallpoppycock. If you could approve that would be great.

More details when she'd delivered this weekend but for now, she's a 15.3 4 year old Chestnut mare who has had a short but sucessful career as a hurdler. Retired due to injury but nothing that will stop her being used a broodmare this year.
