Hello!
I'm new to HHO, based in Ireland and looking for a bit of advice :)
Having taken a few years off to have babies, I'd like to get back into riding with the aim to start eventing again next year but with a very small budget (around €3,000) I think it will be a struggle to find anything half decent - I know the general consensus over here from those across the pond seems to be that we are over-run with cheap horses here, but I suspect that's not actually the case (unless they're all hiding!) :) - so I'm wondering if it might be worth looking for an ex-racehorse? Only thing is, I have no idea where to look for one :( I'd prefer to avoid the sales if at all possible. Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice or suggestions?

You could get an ex racer for 300 not 3000! No matter how much work you put into them they will still be of a very low value if you choose to sell on. Keep looking elsewhere. They really are out there!

Hello!

I got my ex racer from a local trainer who my friend was working for. He had 3 going for slaughter and she told me that one of them was a real nice mare, sound and well bred. She was just too slow for the racing! Im lucky with her as she is sooo laid back and such a dote. She loves her new life and has taken to it so well, although I know that not all of them are like that!

I got her for free by the way!
so my advice would be to get in touch with your local racehorse trainer and see what they have! Some trainers are very fond of their horses and would rather see them go to a good home especially if they are sound and young!

Good luck in your search!
