Took the ex racer iv been riding for a month out today for the first time with me! (He used to hack to gallops in ireland). Went out with OH on his bike we just did a short 2mile loop but he was so good!! I am so proud of him!
He just had a couple of hairy moments, one where the road changed colour and the other because a chicken scrathed the ground the other side of a hedge...daft horse. Oh and a tantrum because he wanted to carry on trotting not allow the car to pass!
He was very vocal though, any ideas how to help him overcome his fear of being alone? He didnt nap just called lots and kept hesitating but was ok when squeezed on and talked to kept him calm.
I am planning to ride out with another horse next week to try and get him more confident although not sure if that will make him worse to take out alone afterwards?

:D:D

The vocals are likely to quieten down every time you go out.
When my horse was young she used to do a lot of hacking with mum on a bike and it was wonderful and they don't fear bikes ;)

Good luck with your next hack.

Thanks! OH was very happy...he would have been very put off having just spent ££££'s on a bike if horsey didnt like them! He just moaned we were a bit slow lol
Thanks for that im hoping so...then its just his piggy noises to deal with, now thats embarrassing! :p haha

My ex-racer sounds just like yours....she is forward going and very safe, but doesn't want to slow down and is very vocal. All I can say is that she is better in company, although likes to be at the front and is getting less vocal when we hack out on our own. It will get better, don't worry!
