Yesterday we set off with our ex-racer to do his first ever hunter trial.

We have XC'ed schooled him and he's jumped PN simple fences very easily and really enjoyed it but we decided to do his first course just at 60cms.

He warmed up far too keen for my liking and just generally really enjoying himself :)

He wasn't really sure about going to the start on his own but I just talked to him and let him do it by himself so he worked out it wasn't that scary! :p

The first fence was a little rail, he was pretty sticky about leaving home but trotted and popped over. Fence 2 was a tiny log, he realised that logs are fine so pinged it. Fence 3 was a wooden panel but with what looked like trellis nailed onto it so it caused a little bit of looking but was manageable! :)

The 4th fence were barrels, he has jumped them at home but he really didn't want to jump them and 4 or 5 strides out slammed the breaks on but I kept him walking at them and he just popped over. Fence 5 was a pallisade going towards home so caused no problems, neither did some concrete pipes at fence 6.

Fence 7 was a rail into fairly dark woods going away from home so fairly technical for his little brain but he coped well and trotted through the woody area.

8 was a step up and then down a bank to 9 which was a log pile, really bounded through there. 10 was a brush which we got close to but he jumped well.

11 was a set of (what should have been) scarey blue pipes, which of course didn't even get a little glance at from Mr I'm-Wearing-Brave-Pants. 12 was another palisade which he jumped fine (got a little close)

13 was a double. A pipe on the way in and then a log pile topped with a pipe on the way out (much bigger than the others on course). Doubles were a major brain frying moment for him but he went through like a pro. Then had to swing right-handed to 14, a rail out into a field then left-handed over 15, a hay manger back into the main field. He was fine out of the field and then got rather too brave coming to jump back in so said woah a little to steady him up and he pinged back in.

16 was a palisade painted orange. He absolutely bombed into (heading straight home) and then slammed breaks on (yummy, mouthful of ears :o ;) ) quick smack and jumped then flew over the last.

Big pats

So was very pleased with him. Although he was a little sticky it was an awful lot for him to take in so big :D :D though on the results we got 20pens at fence 4 I think they were a bit harsh  however we wouldn't have been placed anyway.

Such a clever boy. I know my position isn't great but had to use GP yesterday not jump saddle and was kicking bloomin' hard :o

Unwritten english analysis and soup on offer!!

He is by Dashing Blade (GB) X A Real Work Of Art (IRE)

he was bred in Germany to be a flat racer but grew too big so hurdled instead. He has Shirley Heights and Mill Reef bloodlines and can certainly shift! :)

He looks like a Sadler's Hall horse - dark bay, deep body, pretty head, blaze and socks :) I'm surprised he isn't even of the same lines.

I hope you have many more years of fun with him as he certainly is a stunner!
