If anyone had suggested an ex racer would have been a good horse for me I'd have looked at them like they were stupid :D

Well after buying a TB cob cross, I went back to the place I used to have lessons and asked for a lesson on something sportier as I'm used to hairy cobs - this to prepare me for the new one.

My riding instructor put me on a 16.1hh ex racer and he has completely changed my views.

What a lovely horse, I cannot describe how safe and happy I felt on him. Safer than on my own horses.
I've never riden a horse before that slowed at the slightest touch, as obedient, he was just wonderful.

He's up for sale also, I wish I could afford another :(

I think he's well and truely converted me, I will always love my cobs but I'm no longer afraid of the sportier types :)

Anyone else been pleasantly surprised like this?

I am very lucky to own my thoroughbred!
He is such a quick learner, hes not easy but i appricate him all the more when i ride others.
He bucks rather alot, but he is using his backend so i dont mind!
But he has steering, and manners! and he does not gallop off like a lot of people assume!
Hes responsive, eager to please, honest i just can not fault him ! :)

My sister's ex-racer, having been off work for 3 months hacking back to his 'in work' home... He's such a dobbin out hacking, truly a fantastic horse with manners to die for :)

If they're reschooled well and not the totally cuckoo ones (and, like every other breed, you do get some fruitloops!) they can be total super stars. We didn't want an ex-racer for Al, but he's been fantastic and taught her loads (as well as learning loads too- they've reschooled each other!).

Have an ex racer he's my first horse, after looking for a cob type origionally but ended up with him. He's the calmest most genuine horse I have ever met, if you would have told me I'd own an ex racer I would never have believed It. He's my horse of a lifetime :-)

It is lovely how responsive they are isn't it.
I have fun with mine at the end of a schooling session knotting up the reins and riding him around steering and stopping just with my seat. If I turn my shoulders and head he turns and if I sit up he stops lol, so fun :).

i have one of each :D...
my little mare is the most sweatest thing every is always willing to try and loves her work, although grumpy in the stable but not in a nasty way you can just laugh at her when she does her crocodile antics, (big and tough on the outside but a big softy on the inside)
on the other hand i have a pyscopathetic one that spooks at a little butterfly and there is hedge monsters in the side that are going to kill him if he possibly went near the hedge  he is just coming back into work although he finds it incrediably hilarious to stand on his back legs and wave his front feet around (often straight vertical rears) though if you come of he doesnt run away he stands there turns around and looks at you to say haha what you doing down there... yet in the stable his is so loving andlikea big puppy dog that just loves all the attention

But no matter what i say about them would never be without them they are there own character and do not nothing but make me laugh in there own little ways
