Lunged my boy today and he had alot of froth coming from his mouth. He often has a bit when being rode but today was ridiculous.
I know its usually a good sign but just wondering if there's any reason's why today was more than normal?
He was lunged in side reins and went really well.
He seemed slightly uncomfortable the last few times i rode him as i put the reins on the next ring down. He used to slobber lot when he was in snaffle.
Could it be that he feels better when just being rode in normal snaffle?

The reason why horses froth with the bit is because they cant swallow very well. If you have a thin mouthpiece, swallowing may be easier, and if you have a bigger mouthpiece and/or flash, its a lot harder for them to swallow.
If they are frothing a bit, then they are soft in the mouth, but if they are frothing a lot, maybe he is finding it difficult to swallow. i guess i would find it hard to swallow with something resting on my tongue.

An RI I know puts excessive frothing down to stress? Perhaps as you said there was a bit of discomfort with him the other way he's getting a bit anxious?
