My kids pony is 15yrs 13.2hh welsh C. Recently I've noticed that he's weeing alot. I think over the last two weeks I've noticed it.

For instance he will wee on his way in from the field, then wee during the ride and then again when home and again when turned out - this would be 4 times in the space of about 3 hours.

I'm sure this is excessive. Do you think I should get the vet? The wee appears to be normal colour. He lives out 24/7 and has one feed of pasture nuts and Happy Hoof.

I should think I could catch a sample for the vet quite easily.

What do you think?

One of ours used to wee all the time and it was a stress related thing.
It can however be an infection so taking a sample to your vet would be a good idea. is the wee normal looking in colour not cloudy etc?

Lots more moisture in the grass now - that can also affect how much they urinate.

Is he drinking a lot as well? Cushings can cause excessive drinking and urinating - may be worth getting checked out. It may be difficult to monitor water intake if he lives out, perhaps disable any troughs and use buckets for a couple of days so you can see.

Don't think it's stress related - he's a laid-back type.

Wee appears to be normal in colour. He urinates quite freely - it doesn't dribble or anything.

Will ring the vet and ask if I can take in a sample for testing

Not sure how much he's drinking - his trough in the field automatically refills when he drinks. I don't think I can turn it off without the others all going off too (in other paddocks). Will ring the vet tomorrow and ask if I can take in a sample for testing. Where can I find the symptoms of Cushings?

Rang the vet who has given me some antibiotics and a kidney flush. Said to see how he goes after these and then he may need to investigate further. So I'll give him the powders later on and see what happens.

Thanks for your replies
