Has anyone had excitability feeding these? I know they are supposed to be non heating, but I am not so sure!

My pony is out 24/7, gets hay and fast fibre am and pm as the field is bare.

He lost all of his excess weight over winter and looked great, but the last few weeks when we had the snow he dropped quite a lot more. I added a scoop of nuts to his fast fibre (increased over a few days) and from the first day he's been so full of himself! He's been more of a handful than normal, more bolshy, loopy on the lunge so I stopped feeding them yesterday.

Anyone else?

I thought maybe the grass originally, but his field has been covered in snow the whole time (just started melting the last couple of days.) The only other thing is I had a new hay delivery, but from the same farmer. If anything, the new hay isn't anywhere near as nice looking/feel as what he was on previously.

Thanks

The change was dramatic. First day he got a handful in his evening feed and by morning he was hopping all over the field. Day 3 he looked liked he might explode so I took him into the school to let off some steam and he went mental, bucking, farting, squealing etc which was fine as he's stuck in snowy paddock. Every day since he has been the same! My friend gave him a real good lunge session on Friday, completely tired him out, but yesterday he was full of the same energy! Too much for my liking so I've cut it out completely now, and reduced his feed and hay down a bit as the snow has melted. Ill keep you posted as to if it makes a difference.

One of Mine doesn't heat up at all on them and he gets hot on alot of feeds, however he only gets half a Stubbs scoop.

Mine have been on haylage all winter but having reached their optimum spring weight I didn't want them going backwards. So added in some TopChop lite and alfabeet just to supplement the forage. Hello bonkers horses :D Honestly, mad as hatters. It is quite funny really, think one is hallucinating :D

They are almost the exact same ingredients as 'Champions' 'Easy mix', which is £4 a bag cheaper but sticky and obviously dressed in molasses.

My horse has it to tempt him to eat his supplements and I bought the nuts for him to have a 'high fiber' non heating option.

They are basically the same thing, my horse scoffs down either! But I wouldn't of bought the nuts if I was going to have feed in moderation as I am doing.

Don't always believe whats on the label :p

My cob cannot tolerate hi fibre nuts at all. She's a truly fab bomb proof mare but has a total character change if fed nuts or low cal balancer....well anything like that really. Grass, hay and top spec top chop light is about her lot. Apples and carrots are fine too.

He has definitely calmed down! Lunged him on Sunday and he was fine. Forward as he's getting fitter, but calm and listening to me. No bucking or farting or hi jinx. Yesterday he was just lovely and cuddly. Following me round while I poo picked and stood still while I groomed, picked feet, weight taped and used my Wintec saddle gauge. So now I am convinced it was the nuts to blame!

I think they have quite a high starch content which some horses can be sensitive to. One of mine is sensitive to anything over 10% and Im sure that these are 13%. FF is a lot lower in sugars and starch so wouldnt have the same effect.
