Hello all

Hope you are all surviving the day without many blips
I was wondering if you feed sugarbeet / speedibeet to your horses in the winter? I only ask as Lord isn't a horse that is likely to hold his weight over the winter and I wanted to get something extra into him to help BUT he can get fizzed up by some feeds. He was on sugarbeet when I got him but I was wondering if you found a particular brand tended to fizz your horses up more than another???

At the moment Lord is on 1 1/2 scoop chaff and 1/2 scoop of conditioning cubes a day (I am going to move him onto a cool mix though)

As long as you feed unmolassed sugar beet (like Kwikbeet) it should not fizz him up, as the sugar content is barely 5% and it's nicely high in fibre.

I agree - mine's pretty 'sugar-sensitive' but can handle Kwikbeet and Speedibeet no problem

Fiber beet may be better for you as has the least sugar contant in or speedi-beet if you cant get fiber beet. Both of these have limited sugar in them.

Same here...a whiff of a mix sends mine loopy...but speedibeet is fine as there's hardly any sugars in it...its mainly fibre.

Dan usually has Calm & conditioner through winter and also had it when we first got him and he was very skinny, it doesn't seem to fizz him up at all

mine looses her marbles with sugar and mixes (pretty sure it is the ones with corn that cause the issues too!). On speedibeet or kwikibeet she is absolutly fine. I tend to use kwikibeet as it has v slightly less sugar content than the speedibeet.

i cant give mine any kind of sugarbeet as it blows her brain but she is on calm and condition and it keeps her looking and behaving lovely

p.s. if the level of sugar still concerns you then you can soak the beet well then pour the sugary water off, then feed the mash.

Sugarbeet and speedibeet both sent my horse loop de loop. As for weight gain, alfa a did the trick

speedibeet is good stuff, non-heating, fab source of fibre.

I feed it adlib in the winter, and they do really well on it.
