Well after deciding that I want another horse to play with so to speak....I found a great sounding mare on NFEDS and am going to see her on Saturday, she's a 17.2hh CB x TB that has SJ'd, but wants more of a relaxed time now, the owner sounds lovely too...yay that always helps, she does buck, rear and spin...and at that size it's like OMG!!!!

I am hoping that we get on now as she sounds great I would want to do SH/WH on the mare she's good out hacking on own and in company but can get on toes in windy weather so I will bear that in mind too...but to be honest I am sooo excited about her just hope she will be what I really want, if not the search will continue...

I know I know...I was a bit yikes....but apparently hasnt reared for ages, and she only does it when she's bored or over excited...she's going to be a big 17.2 too I think by the sounds of her....arghhh am I really mad doing this or what?

Merl used to buck..and they were sometimes big ones but he was only 15.1hh and I knew him inside and out and wasnt fazed by them but 17.2?????
Spins at gateways....apparently...guess she bucks most of the time??

umm, you know what I would do? - look for something SMALLER, (below 17.2hh isn't hard - am sure there are plenty !! ) and look for something who isn't likely to put you on the floor. YIKES. Yes, you are totally mad, but someone has to be!
 
If the owner is saying she bucks, rears and spins then I hate to think of what she actually does.
My horse used to spin now only does it occationally and I used to stay on but used to frighten the life out of me!

the owner has also said that she would help to pay cost of part livery too...now thats either she's very genuine or she wants rid?....currently being ridden 4 times a week but could do with more work...when I asked if she reared, bucked, span etc I was kinda hoping that she'd say no...I'm not really bothered bout bucking to be honest just rearing does slightly concern me....and if I wasnt able to hold her and off i come...with more than bruised ribs this time? I have some concerns with those issues I dont know if it's cos I could have another horse that excites me or her??? so already I'm doubting things, although I am not doubting that I really want a horse to do things with...

Oh God why me?? My sis in law is also looking so I thought we could share although she's more into her eventing so it wouldnt work us sharing her we want different things...
so do I go and see this mare or just say thanks but no thanks,

Please help....I am experienced and confident but not sure if I really am that good for this mare......
 
I don't understand. You say the horse has previously SJ'd but now wants more of a quiet time, yet you specifically say you want to do SJ and WH on her ?

I suspect the horse is not sound with hard work like SJ. As other have said if the owner admits the rearing bucking and spinning, I'll bet its completely mad.

Buy a horse that is not bonkers.

Going to see wouldn't hurt. My mare had very bad 'reviews' but turned out not to be half as bad, and 1 year on we're still going strong. You might find that what she does is not as bad as advertised, or that it's easily managed/rectified. If not, you can simply say she's not right for you.
 
Well going to see her wont hurt. But I would ask the question, if you only want to do local level stuff etc. what makes this mare so good that you would put up with spinning, rearing and bucking. Now if you wanted to BSJA to a high levela nd she had "quirks" I would understand - superstars at high levels can be prima donnas and often these quirks can be overlooked if the horse gets in the competition arena and really operates. Personally I don't see the point of taking on a very large horse whos owner admits to it rearing (which is a serious vice and totally terrifies me knowing someone who has broken thier pelvis when a horse came back over on them). On the other hand if you want a challange it sounds like one!
 
you say going to see her won't her, I disagree, I have been hurt several times just trying horses(not this time around thankfully)!!

Kezz do you really need a horse that does these things???? Being really nosy here, is it that she is cheap??? If not then I would not even bother!! (personally wouldn't bother anyway) as others have said there are lots of NICE horses out there. Imagine what she will be like when she is in a new home and unsettled too
