Hi,

I have just recently found out from a friend who is a BRC Member that I am NOT insured if I ride my horse in a Dr Cook/cross under bitless bridle on the Highways!

I am also excluded from taking any BHS Riding and Road Safety training or test. However you can in a hackamore bridle? (type of bitless bridle)

I have ridden my well trained horse in a cross under bridle for the last 4 years. I would never go back to riding my horse in a bit. I don't need a bit to control and ride my horse safely.

This seems very unfair when there are people who do care about the welfare of their horse. People compete in showjumping and cross country in cross under bridles but possibly can't get insurance to ride on the highways?

Please check with your individual insurance companies as you won't be covered under any BHS/BRC membership if you are riding in a Dr Cook/cross under bridle on the highway.

I look forward to hearing from others in my position. If anyone has confirmation in writing from their insurance company to say they are insured in a Dr Cook/cross under bridle on a highway then please let me know.

That's stupid and unfair.
I am pretty sure our insurance has no such ban, but will get OH to check the small print.
