I use bandages on my boy but people have been saying to me that i am doing it wrong and using the wrong bandages. Im using gamgee with an elesticated bandage at the moment...thought that was what you are suppoesed to use...always have done.

I was just wondering what badages everyone else uses and how you put them on ect?

PS: I do know how to bandage to avoid pressure points im not just ruining my horses legs.

I use the fleece polo bandages, only to save faffing about with gamgee. Wouldn't use elastic ones without gamgee or some sort of padding (although several people on the yard I'm at DO and bandage rather shockingly anyway!) but the way you're doing it seems fine to me? It was what I always thought was 'correct' anyway, the same as you...

Don't use them myself, but when we used to that is what we used. I think they have become a bit old fashioned and fleece bandages are more "in".

i have bandaged that way too, can't see that it is wrong - have done it that way for years.

i know that many people now use fleece/polo bandages maybe the people who commented only use that method and don't know about the other (much more established way)

you can use fleece with no padding or elastic with padding such as gamgee, nothing wrong with using either.

Echo what everyone else has said, you're not doing anything wrong it's just not the current fashion. I use bandages that are half fleece, half elastic :) you wrap the fleece from top to bottom then elastic bandage from bottom to top. Never did my WB any harm!

I use stable bandages with gamgee as athough I am careful with bandaging I would prefer to be extra careful of any pressure points! Am an uptight worrier by nature so it suits me. Doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with what you do so don't worry! I must admit I don't like more stretchy bandages as I would worry about inadvertantly get them too snug, though you get get used to what you do. I don't use the bandages as anything other than gentle support against puffy legs, so if you wanted more support for exercise then I wouldn't bother with them! Do love how many diff colours you get the polo bandages in though!!

Oh good! I need to use bandages as extra surpport for exercise since he broke his splint bone, the vet said i should use banadges for a while instead of boots and i prefer bandages to boots anyway so its suits me.

Was just worried i was doing it wrong , so i'm glad i'm not

Thanks

Can I just hijack and ask a quick question please?!

I need to bandage over night in stable and then hack to local show with them on...would you use exercise bandages (ie: elasticated) or fleece ones?

I've bandaged before shows before a few times using the fleece ones but have never actually ridden in them and have taken them off in the morning when we've trailered to shows (usually use boots for riding but will be using white paste and leaving bandages on til the last minute as we're hacking down...got moved down a place in last show class for dirty socks! lol)...

Also, why is it ok to not use gamgee with fleece?? surely you can still get pressure sores from uneven bandaging? I'm not bad at bandaging at all, but would still worry as you always get the overlap...?

I personally would bandage with the fleece ones in the stable and then redo them in the morning before you ride with elestic ones, there is more give in the elastic ones for riding in.

I dont know why it is ok not use gamgee to be honest..i was always taught to use it under all badages to even out the pressure.
