Basically trying to find out if any of you use them. If so do you just use fleece bandages with no wrap underneath, or does everyone use pads? Thinking of using fleece bandages instead of boots for a while.

Has anyone tried the bandages that have built in padding for the first half and then normal, or elasticated for the last half? Are they any good?

If you use fleece bandages (polos), you don't need padding under them

The strechy bandages need padding under them to spread the pressure out. I've never used the ones with built in padding though.

Hi, I use fleece bandages all the time for schooling, I find them much better although they take longer to put on but you soon get used to that!

The half fleece half elastic you have to be very careful of as it is really easy to over tighten them, but they are better for hacking as they are firmer.

I tend to hack in boots just so I don't have to worry that they might come off!

Hope this helps...

I use the half fleece half stretchy and really good as protection underneath and stretchy on top - have to be careful not to overtighten them though. Look nice and also I find that mud sand etc does not get under them like boots. Takes longer to put on, but I LOVE time with my neddy so thats ok. Got a set from Lidl and they have been fab - wash very well and very soft, were about £5 I think so good value.

I use fleece banages (polo ones called jumptec) mine are very thick so its very clear if they are badly put on. A horse I ride has the half elecastic ones as well but I don't perfer them, maybe easier to put on. I also use them when for support or filling legs with gamez stuff at night for stable banageds etc. I think there brillant for training as they have much more protection. Also if your horse really kicks a fuss over travel boots these are good at offering some protection without upset. Its really important there correctly fitted not just because of pressure but rubbing the front where the horse flicks with (hard to explain) and making sure your supporting the tedons in correct way.

There are two types;
Traditional exercise bandages which are made of elasticated material, and which should run from below the knee to just above the fetlock joint. They should always be used over padding, and both legs should be bandaged by the same person.
The other kind are polo/dressage bandages which are made of fleecy material, often with the padding sort of stuck to the back of half of them. They are bandaged a little looser than the traditional ones, and go from below the knee down over the fetlock.
Both types can cause horrific tendon injuries if incorrectly applied (too tight) or accidents (too loose, come off) so be careful.
Good luck

I use the fleece bandages on Grace without the padding under them (and they are a pretty shade of lilac too

)... she brushes with her back legs when she gets stressed and they protect them brilliantly.

Thanks everyone - seems to be that the fleece bandages are the way to go. Fortunately I am pretty practised at bandaging so think I will be safe to be let loose with them!!!! Shame the half elastic / half padded ones are not brilliant. At least just fleece ones are a cheaper option!!!

i have to disagree, i think combi bandages are fab, i have a cheap pair (lidl) i think - that are a bit naff.
but also have a john whittaker pair which are really good.

i either use the above or pads and elastic ones.

combi's are so much less hassle when im in a hurry.
