exercise rugs?

Equafleece. They are exceptionally hi viz, are 100% fleece yet are waterproof (and they really are, we ride in heavy rain sometimes and the horse's backs are still warm and dry) and wash up like new.

First you have to decide which type will suit your needs.

You can get 'ride on', 'wrap round' and 'quater sheets'.

A ride on exercise rug goes under the saddle (like a numnah) You will not be able to remove it without removing the saddle. These are very cosy for the winter.

A Wrap around sort covers the riders legs, so it is nice and cosy for the rider... no more wt legs. You can take it off without removing your saddle.

A Quarter sheet attatches to the back of the saddle, no part of it is under the saddle or over the rider. These are handy for warming up at competitions. It also does not interfere with the fit of the saddle. Handy if you use special numnahs. You can take these off easily as they are only attatched by the saddle dees. Teh down side is that they cover less of the horse and non of the rider.

Thermalux and Thermatex do very nice ones that wick away sweat vrey eficiently. If you are on the road it is safeest to use a reflective or day glow sheet. If you plan to ride in the torrential rain like a mad man then you would be best with a waterproof one!

I have a selection of sheets for all occasions. I would say that the best bargains are to be found on eBay.

They are all good, but my particular favorites from my own sad collection are...

and this

I just bought a whitney stripe rambo.... love it... fleece is lovely and thick and light rain doesn't go through it. Wanted a fabric one as I have a waterproof jumpers horse line sheet which although is nice, drags back as waterproof sheets aren't flexible like fabric.
They are both wrap around sheets... Like Yorkshire Lass says it depends on what you want and what type of horse you have....

I don't personally like ride on sheets, I have one and don't like the fact that once its on you can't take it of without undoing the saddle... I've never tried a quarter sheet, but love the look of the one by equisafety.... it's hi viz with a purple stripe....

I always use quarter sheets, I've got an old Lansdown one which is very warm, then a fluorescent waterproof one which I use on top of the Lansdown if it's cold and wet. I use them because I'm very fussy about what I put on my horses back, and don't like the idea of anything interfering with the fit of the saddle.
