Okay so following on from my post about high postage for buying a single exercise sheet I have a question.....

The reason I'm looking to buy a new one is that on my current one the velcro at the front only just reaches. I dont like the exercise sheet to go under my saddle at the back as I always think that the sheet edging under the saddle would be uncomfortable on the horses back.
However looking at new ones to buy I've noticed a lot of the photos show the sheet under the saddle at the back.

How do you use your sheets, do you allow the sheet to sit underneath the panels on the saddle?

If it's fine for it to go underneath I probably dont need a new one as the current one will likely reach at the front if it's underneath.

I hope this all makes sense, lol!

This is why I only use ride on. But then I'm so finicky about it I won't even use an acavello seat saver as the elastic goes under the saddle. Sorry I can't help.

I have a wrap around I don't use for that reason! I have a cheapy ride on Newmarket fleece for cold weather and a waterproof Masta quarter sheet, which sits nicely behind the saddle, for wet weather.

I use wrap-arounds but don't ever let them go under the saddle, they need to sit at the top of the panels at the back of the saddle. I stitch a piece of elastic across the back of the hole which goes across the seat of the saddle just in front ofthe cantle to hold the sheet in place (can't feel it when riding).

Could yours be adapted by extending the velcro a bit - like a chest-expander for a sheet? Do you pull yours right up so that the top of the sheet is right up by the saddle skirt - that gives a bit of extra front too.

I use wrap arounds too. They are essential at shows to whip on and off as horse / rider needs them. Mostly we try to position them as catkin describes - between the panels and the cantle at the rear. But they do on occasion slip down. I like the elastic idea! All of mine use a fleece 1/2 pad between saddle and numnah to jump (Saddles are fitted for that). I'm fairly sure even the most sensitive of ours does not actually notice the back of the sheet when it slips between the saddle and the half pad. But I wouldn't deliberately put that edge between the horse's back and the saddle without the fleece pad.

So - long way of suggesting it - but might a fleece 1/2 pad be part of the solution?

I have a wrap around too. It fits the horse well in that the Velcro does up well over his wither and it's plenty long enough but the 'hole' for the saddle is way too small. I just shove it over the top as I don't want it under the saddle. I did think of cutting the back of the 'hole' to make it sit better but I'm not good enough at sewing to replace the binding.
