If you can afford it, then get a wool one, the wind just blows straight through fleece and a wool rug will still be warm even if it gets wet. It will also last, I have a witney stripe one that is still going strong after 20 odd years.

I have a proper Witney Newmarket wool one and it is lovely, but I tend to use my wrap around ones (love my newmarket Horseware one) more because they are so easy.

Size wise, my 15hh arab takes 5'9 rugs and is fine in the 4'6 sheets that I have for my bigger horse (15.2 and a bit hh 6ft - 6ft3 turnout rug size). I would go down a size though for your pony and look for 4'3 exercise sheets.

If you go for a hi-viz one and get the Equsafety wrap around, you might need the small pony size as the pony fits my larger horse fine. ;)

My 14'3 welsh sec D takes a 5'9 rug and a 4'6 exercise sheet. I bought a Mark Todd one which was fleece and waterproof but they come up v big and are also deep top to bottom. I've gone down a size to a 4'3 which is a perfect fit.
