What size would you get for a 16.2hh irish sports horse type.
My mums just told me I can look for one to buy and /i havent measured him.

What size rugs does he take? I'd say either 4'9" or 5' depending on "normal" rug size. He doesn't look very long though.

I have used a fab thermatex rug. Expensive, but with the velcro wrap round the front of the saddle, you can remove without having to take off the saddle - assuming co-operative horse. So i warm up in it then take it off & hang over gate.

Measure from point of wither to wherever you want it to go on his bum. Depends whether you want a quarter sheet which is shorter and basically just keeps his loins covered or an exercise sheet, seem to be two different things these days.

ps....as to what kind of sheet, you know that I would say go for a proper Newmarket stripe wool one, bright enough to be seen in and Ali never, ever, got wet even in the worst rain with his on. Old fashioned perhaps but excellent quality and they last for ever, mine was 20 years old and still going strong.

Thermatex do a fair few variations. They do a quarter sheet which as Enfys said just sits behind the saddle, hangs down behind your leg and covers the back end. It velcros on to the girth straps and it great for covering around behind the saddle but only keeps horse warm and not you.
They also do the other one Enfys said about which goes over your legs and velcros around the front.
Nordic/wraps arounds legs one!

They also do the traditional one that sits under the saddle and covers the horse only like all the normal ones

What sort are you after? A dark colour or a fluorescent one for hacking? Waterproof or not? Thin cotton lining, or thick wool/ fleece/ Thermatex-style one?
