As most of you know by now I look after a very old pony, she is 44yrs (ish).

She is currently walked out everyday but I suspect she is getting bored as she keeps breaking out of her stable and cantering down the lane to the farm.

Has anyone got any ideas of what I can do to keep her entertained ?

Do you have access to a school? If so loose schooling is always enjoyed by my oldies, they can get quite exited run around and enjoy themselves. Never hurt themselves either despite throwing themselves around like youngsters :)

Please don't torture the old girl with Parelli, she won't find it entertaining I can assure you that!

I used to help look after a 39yr old pony, he was very lame/stiff so couldnt handle walks inhand ect i hid polos around his stable so he had to search for them, made him stretch for them and things like that and he loved it :)

I would love to loose school her as I think she would love it, but because she is slightly underweight. People on the yard always make snidey comments.

It is hard to keep weight on older horses, people shouldn't be so unkind and make spiteful comments. Take no notice of them, I expect she will put on weight with the spring now here and the harsh winter over.

Is there ever a quiet time on your yard (early morning/late night/midweek???) maybe you could loose school her then if possible, you shouldn't have to though :(

Give the old girl a hug, you have done really well getting her to such a grand age, oldies rock! :)

Edited to ask, Is she the grey in your picture thing? If so she is gorgeous :D

I could probably school in the morning :)

She lunged herself the other day, I was tidying the menage with her on the end of a lunge line ( I walk her on a line so she can wander) I picked up a whip that was on the the floor and she started trotting round ..... I got reported to YM

OMG people are so petty, I have a 30yo that loose schools himself over the jumps in the school if the aren't taken down, he also races his OAP mate around like a lunatic. Just because they are old doesn't mean they can't have fun, people should really mind their own business sometimes.

Completly agree, B has followed horses over jumps in the menage or has jumped herself if I was schooling another horse in there
