Hi all! I'm looking for some schooling exercises for my 6 rising 7 year old pony. He is 13.2hh and he is quite strong in the canter. He needs to be brought in an outline gradualy which I and my instructor are working on! All I want is some exercises that can be different from my normal schooling sessions, bearing in mind I have to school in a field. I work on my transitions alot and that is something that I work on in my warm up, to make sure that in my session he is sharp off my leg and is constantly listening! :) Nothing too hard, but nothing too easy, just something different!
Thank You,
Dayna x

Walk to canter and rein back to canter, also canter figure of 8s with change of leg thru walk at x. canter squares, shoulder in and quarters in r all great for improving the canter x

Lots of leg yielding I find helped me, start in walk and build up to trot and canter. It can help a forward type start thinking more rather than rushing forwards. Also when doing your transitions vary the way you do them, enter a 10m circle and ask for trot from canter or trot from walk. It can stop them rushing. Lots of shapes will help you and your pony become more supple and able.

Also an invaluable piece of advice I was given once was to master something in walk before moving onto any other pace. Sounds stupid, and blatantly obvious but it works wonders and you don't need a school, you can practise it out on hacks if you want to! Hope you get on all right.
