I've been very naughty lately and have been neglecting the schooling side of riding. Anyways I've given myself a kick up the jacksy and would like a bit of advice for the following.
Georgie is very very green and very very lazy, we have been doing lots of hacking to get him going forwards better which seems to have helped.
Georige tends to fall out through his shoulder, more so on the right rein (his worse rein all round) please can you suggest some simple exercises to help, I realise this is a balance and lack of strength issue and will take time but some pointers would be good.
He has also got this awful habit of hopping, he does it if mainly from walk to trot but occassionaly will do it in walk when you ask him to move off the leg. ANy ideas?

Thank you oh wise ones.

I'm not great at suggestions as I tend to do what I do and not think about it but my favourite exercise is probably the leg-yield-spiral-in-spiral-out on a circle one.

Makes me concentrate on riding both sides of my horse while improving horse's balance, correct bend and getting him working under himself and tracking up.

I'd make sure that you're not working him along the fence all the time - keep him on the 3/4 line and really concentrate on riding him very straight and then make sure he's turning his corners from your leg, rather than your hand. If you feel him falling out, then you could leg yield away from the fence to straighten him up.
Lots of work on 20 m circles and figures of 8 to make him think about what he's doing. And lots of transitions - one of the worst things to do with a lazy horse is to keep going in the same pace and round the outside of the school, and the transitions will help him sit back on his hocks a bit more. Another exercise you could try are 1/2 10m circles, returning to the track on the diagonal.
Hope these help a bit!
