What exercises can I do with my cob to get him working over his back?

He gets tight in his back behind the saddle which is helped by Physio and magnetic back pad.

I currently work on working him longer and lower both ridden and on the lunge but am getting stuck for ideas.

Claire Lilley has some nice kit which is basically a chambon but comes with some extras and good advice leaflet. Helped my lad a lot when he came to me with no muscle other than that UNDER his neck and was rigid through his lumbar spine. Still use it occasionally and you can really see those back muscles release. Find it on the net and not too pricey - less than the other options of Pessoa or de Gogue

walking over raised poles - get him lifting him back legs - also have a look into stretches you can do - you physio might show them to you...belly lifts, various carrot stretches. Transitions and if you can then lots of walking....long relaxed walking, sometimes easier to stop them tensing up if you can hack out on long walks

Lots of serpentines and loops. Changes in direction will keep him thinking and therefore helps relaxation.

Salom (thinks thats the word) over raised and poles on the floor, can be done on right turns, straight lines (asking them to kinda leg yield/step over it) mini-serpentines over them. Can be done inhand, ridden or on the long reins, if i've confused you just pm me :)

Lateral work is what does it for my girly, leg yield, shoulder in and travers all really get the engine working and her stretching over her back, doesn't have to be stylish just getting the steps under and moving her off her shoulders really works.
