My rather green young mare is very dangly with her front legs over a fence. I have been using high side cross poles and small grids but wondered if any of you knowledgable lot had any other / better exercises that may help her improve. Thanks

A spread with the high side cross at the front, and an upright on the back. Make sure the back pole is around the same height and the x-centre or a little bit higher.

Like you said, lots of grid work with high sided crosses and ascending spreads. Also, pole work with raised poles will be very good.

An upright with an 'A' frame (two poles, one side of each resting on the centre of the upright and one side of each on the ground, making a triangle shape with the pointy bit in the jumo centre) sorry do you get what I mean haha!?

Using fillers aswell.

hope that helps

I see you haven't had a response on this, I wish I could help, but I don't really know for sure.

I had a horse doing this when he was six, but he was meant for dressage so we didn't work on it too much, appaerntly he would slightly grow out of it if he did enough jumping. He went on to more dressage and a new owner though, so I don't know now...

Perhaps try posting again?

Hi frannie, the other thing some people do is to build a parallel and then put a pole diagonally across the top of it, lying on the top poles. Dont make it too high because it is meant to make them jump higher and pick their feet up.
