Afternoon
I have a buggered left knee (have had for years) and since my spectacular swan dive off the lorry ramp last year I now have a knackered right ankle to boot. Add to this 5 weeks off riding because of the weather and my lower legs seem to have forgotten how to ride.
My position is terrible therefore going to get some flat work lessons asap but its the strength thats gone too.
Any recommendations for improving my lower leg strength off the horse so i can do them whilst i am away from home. I can then come back and beast the Destroyer a little more effectively when I'm home!
Ta muchly xx

If you can manage it, then cycling is excellent for that. I too, have two buggered knees (replaced) and both ankles pinned but find riding is the best exercise for keeping them going. Hope this helps.

I had my left knee operated on for a problem with my cartlidge and also have a dodgy right hip. I do a few exercises for my lower leg one is to stand up really tall hands stretched above me and stand on tippy toes then lower yourself back down slowly and controlled - repeat (I usually do about 20)
A variation is to do it stood on 1 leg (which is way tougher cos I'm bob at balancing on my feet!)
Also do it stood on the edge of a step and lower your heel down then up into tippy toes again.
Another is to lean with shoulder against a wall and push your weight thru your hip on the outside, lift up your leg closest to wall and bend weight bearing leg and the straighten and repeat ( hard to explain but I tried!)
Lean your back against a wall and move into a seating position (without the chair!)
try to stay in position for about a minute knee bend should be 90 degrees. Once this becomes easy lift one leg up and straighten it forward as much as you can. Be careful not to collapse to one side and drop your hip when doing it.
Hope this helps, if you want anymore pm me I've got loads x

Exactly what I was going to say, the standing on tip toes andcontrolled down is all I can manage but its a start. I wish I could do it on one leg.

If you can't even manage these then get a bicycle inner tube and put that around your toes and hold it (leg straight) and pull it with your hands and push away with foot using as much pressure as you can with your hands
The other one is to just stand and balance on one leg with activating the muscles in your butt
