What do you work on, in the school, purely in walk? In the week I can really only ride at night so hacking is obviously out and as I have a jumping lesson tomorrow morning, I don't especially want to do a fast session or a hard schooling session tonight. I was thinking a good 30 mins of schooling but just in walk would be good for us both.

He has a reasonable walk, quite correct, does some basic lateral work (leg yield, shoulder fore, reasonable attempt at shoulder in on a straight line and volte). However, he finds walk work very dull (in fairness though, he thinks everything bar hunting is dull ATM

), even with lots of transistions and rein changes, so just looking for ideas as to what else I could throw in? I think it might be an ideal opportunity to take stirrups away

Rein back, walk to halt to walk transitions, haunches in, turn on the forehand, turn on the haunches, walk pirouette, 3 or 4 loop serpentines, small circles, big circles, S shapes (half ten metre one way then half ten the other). Extended and collected walks. Stretching down in walk then working more up and together. Hope these help

Someone recently suggested walking dressage tests for a horse that is coming back into work. I thought that was a really good idea!

kerilli once posted a whole schooling session in walk, when we were grumbling about frozen arenas. It was absolutely brilliant, i used it for ages when my mare wasnt allowed to go out of walk, as it was invaluable for keeping her supple. Then i lost the bit of papaer and the whole plan went toes-up....!
