Good luck to everyone competing!!

Apparently some entries in some classes have been down on previous years, which is a pity.

If anyone wants to know the progress of a particular competitor, live details are apparently available on the official Golden Horseshoe website.

Sorry, should probably have posted this in "Competing and Training", but wasn't sure quite where it "sat".

I crewed a friend in the 40km novice class on Sunday. They passed which was amazing as horse is 26 year old thoroughbred off the track as youngster, also bred two foals. One of these was last years national novice horse champion. Brilliant tough mare. Very hard course / going this year, times much slower, passes hard to attain. Well done to everyone who got around.

This was my first time riding at GHS I did the PR 25k class. Most amazing ride, thoroughly enjoyed it. Has been on my bucket list of things to-do for a very long time. I was very nervous before hand as really did not know what to expect with the terrain. My horse loved it he was in his element with them hills. It certainly was an Endurance experience. :)

I have just come back from a lovely 5 days in Exford after competing there. I retired my boy (18 years old) on course coming towards the end of the second loop on the first day, just did not feel right.

My friend who has her horses in my yard went on to complete the second day and was the only horse to finish in the Exmoor Stag, in fact she was the only one to finish in either of the 2 top classes. Her boy has worked his way up the Horse shoe ladder by doing the Exmoor Experience (40k/40k) and this year the Stag (80k/40k) next year she is going to do the Horse Shoe itself (80k/80k).

We must keep this wonderful ride going, I could be the last time it is run next year.

It's the 50th anniversary next year isn't it? Would be such a shame to lose such an iconic ride, it used to the the biggest event in the calendar, along with the Summer Solstice Ride. I do wonder if, because it's held on weekdays, that puts people off. The sunday classes looked well subscribed. I really hope that it carries on, like I said before, I've always wanted to complete the full GHS, but that wouldn't be for a few years yet.

Great video, the exmoors are there every year, Nutmeg & Elderberry, wonderful to see fit natives doing the job so well. What ponies should look like. The young girl on the chestnut completed the 160km class this year aged just 14 (pony is 12.2hh I believe). Was a brilliant time, well worth the trip (if you want a crack at the pleasure ride it is on the sunday - enter early, gets full quick).

If you want to try an endurance pleasure ride (or graded ride on try before you buy scheme where you don't have to pay for membership or horse registration, chance to see if it's for you), come to the ride I am co-organising on the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths, 2500 acres of Heathland near Exeter, starting/finishing at Bicton Arena. Ride is called the Clinton Estates Endurance Ride, 16, 25 & 30km PR classes.
