As custodians of public interests you might expects them to have been concerned about a blatantly crooked system, not exploit it at the public's expense.
It epitomises what I think of professional politicians. Anyone who 'wants' to be a politician, thinks that they know best and gets off on power & status, should be the last person we allow to govern us.
We should have a system like jury service, either that or just go ahead and appoint Joanna Lumley & Jeremy Clarkson...

Sort of... I think if I was them I'd be claiming just as much as they were, as long as they are within the rules, nothing is wrong.
I do think the rules should be changed however.

I think it shows how little they actuly have to do if they can find time and or can be botherd to claim for so many tiny amounts like 97 pence for a bath plug !!!!! and why do they need expenses
they know the job intails some time in london so surely like most of us thinking of taking a job in london would look at pay and deduct living expenses to work out if its worth doing, so give them more pay if they are say an hour or so more away from london or buy a hotel for them to use when there in the smoke and reduce the number of the pigs in the westminster trough
There is something I'd really like to know, what did the Conservative MP's claim for when they were in? It's all very well to take the moral high ground and hope this will be the downfall of Labour, but fair's fair I think. I was listening to David Steel on the radio today, and he said that this is something that has been going on for a very, very long time. It was acknowledged as a way of increasing MP's salaries without actually doing so, to avoid bringing a pay rise to the notice of the public.

Exactly! I do not have a problem of having claims but when they are so tight fisted to pay for a flamming plug it just shows you that they are treating the tax payers with contempt.
I am sure that there are MPs in all political parties that have taken the mick when claiming expenses but this does not make it right. On the whole it must be changed. If an MP wishes to have 3 homes then the mortgage and upkeep and even the furnishings must be paid for by themselves!
As I said the whole thing needs revising, I would like to see a new breed of politician where they are working for the people who have voted for them and be trust worthy and honest.
(Thats asking alot isn't it! lol
