My horse was pratting around in the field last week when the ground gave way under him where there was a rabbit run, resulting in him falling over and ripping a huge hole in his face and giving him a fat leg an elephant would be proud off.
So the vet was called out and he was a brave boy and got 12 staples in his face and a hefty bag of equitrim and danilon.
Its healing well and his fat leg is now back to normal.
So I got back from a really hard day at work today to find a vet bill waiting for me. I nearly fainted when I saw how much it was.....£202.52

must have a close look at these staples to see if they are gold!
Whats more I have the vet out again on monday to remove said staples and do a lameness workout for his low grde lame right hind...I have a feeling I am up for an expensive
summer.

Poor you! Damn rabbits, I have had to go and fill in all the little holes they have dug all around my jumping paddock. Think I may have to get the shotgun out and do some target practice. Do you want me to visit you too?

That may be an idea, I may have to cook them foe tea as I have just paid the bill so I can no longer afford to eat!!
Keep your fingers crossed for me that the hind leg isn't going to cost the earth, but I think it will be an insurance claim

Hiya just a thought but have you thought about contacting your local ferreting group as I am sure they would be most happy to rid you of the rabbit problem. You may even get some for the pot yourself if you like rabbit that is.
I was having this discussion with someone the other day as we have rabbits in both our fields. I said I like rabbits and the babies are cute ( laughed at some the other day) and when they nest in hedgerows that is fine with me. However warrens in the fields are not as sadly they can cause so many injuries to all sorts of livestock.
I hope your horse soon gets better x

Damn rabbits. I feel for you and your horse. We have Cornish hedges starting to collapse from rabbits burrowing through them. We have a local marksman shoot them and hubby takes a few shots sometimes too. We invited some people with ferrets and JR's in but they couldn't work in the cover the rabbits have.

Is it me or is there a technical glitch with the times of posts? I have noticed this the past hour that some posts are being listed about an hour or so ahead of the actual time. Bit strange

Yeah that is the trouble with hedgerows. I have helped out twice with ferreting in the past and is the reason I got mine in the first place but couldn't get out and about so sold all my equipment.
Netting up holes in hedges is a nightmare. There is so much cover and so many things the nets can get caught on too as you can't clear too much for fear of disturbing them. Then there are the holes because many times you cannot find all of them and down goes the ferret and up goes the rabbit straight through a bolt hole everyone had missed.

Apparently 10 rabbits eat the same amount of grass as 1 sheep!!! Its not just the holes that cause a problem for us, its the grass eating too.

Hope your bill isn't too big, I'm off to the vets with one of ours tomorrow, the last bill was £600 2 weeks ago, we're in for another biggy tomorrow.

Not seen a poor vet yet!
