Yesterday my 5yo eventing mare caught her toe on the back rail of an oxer and sliced open her coronary band. The wound is about 2 inches long and quite deep.
The wound was pumping blood, we called the vet immediatley. Within 30mins we had almost stopped the bleeding. Today the wound is still bandaged with two bandages. We remove the top one every 4 hours for a few minutes to allow circulation but this causes it to bleed.
She has had vitamin K to help clotting and antibiotics.
I was wondering if anyone has experience of a similar injury. How long it took to
heal, any special treatments and whether the horse returned to full work again.
I am aware that the coffin joint is very near, but we are unsure of yet whether it was affected.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes, my old gelding cut his coronet band away from his hoof capsule. Bizarrely, it didn't bleed profusely. He had a shot of anti b's and then a weeks worth of powders and the wound was sprayed with alu spray daily.
It healed cleanly and with no problems, he was never lame and returned to full work after about ten days.

I hope you have a similar outcome :)

Mine studded himself in his coronary band - he was standing still at the time when he did it, only had studs in the outside, no idea to this day why he was crossing his legs! - we saw the vet at the show who cleaned it and then we sprayed it with wound stuff for a week I think. He had no problems with it, and after a few days was back in work. It didn't gush blood, but there was a fair bit :o

This thread is from 2012, so unlikely to respond.
Surprising thread to be found on search and resurrected given the incorrect spelling in the title.
