Has anyone had a horse that has developed a curb and what was the outcome? My horse is only 3 yrs old, is unbacked and not doing any work, has good confirmation but is slightly lame on that leg. I had the vet for a kick on the other leg and we have decided to xray/scan the curb leg to see whats going on. Ive just got the eeeby jeebies and wondered if anyone else could share their experiences?
Any replies would be much appreciated as for some reason I seem to kill threads these days :) :)

I bought a 4 year old horse with curbed hocks. She passed a vetting by one of the best vets in the country. I was advised that once a curb has settled it shouldn't be an issue for SJing and dressage up to a pretty decent level - my horse passed as suitable to SJ foxhunter +.

The vet did advise that I should be careful with heavy going as that's the one thing that can affect curbs. So I wouldn't recommend hunting or eventing in heavy going.

I expect you'll want to allow your horse a good time to heal and in the long term just build up slowly and keep an eye on it. Provided the curb hardens and cools nicely it shouldn't be an issue long term.

This might be reassuring:

I had a three year old develop quite a noticeable true curb below the hock. But by the time he was fully backed, it was unnoticeable. He evented to intermediate with no trouble from it. I hope yours goes the same way.

My hunter threw a curb season before last I was on it immediately and did everything by the book. He hasn't had a problem so far and I don't think it's noticeable. He hunted last season without a problem but it was very dry so no heavy going so hope we have another dry winter

Thans for replying.
It was a bit of a mystery as to why it appeared... but its there and Im treating it with compagel atm. Its such a shame though as she is such a pretty girl and potentially was a very nice show hack. I never wanted her to be an eventer or hunter so hopefully she will be ok. Im more into dressage and maybe a bit of showing, so Fingers crossed hers settles down and causees her no long term problems.
What did you do irishdraft to treat yours please?
Will look at the link now, thanks junglefairy
