Have posted before about our gelding who had diagnosis of arthritis. Been in to vets today, lowest hock joint nerve blocked and there was an improvement but not 100%. Then x-rayed both legs and no obvious arthritic signs-he said the gap between two joints was slightly narrow but not necessarily causing the pain he's in.

We've come home for lunch as waiting for first nerve block to wear off and then will do another on the suspensory ligament.

Experiences? What does this look like long term? Etc etc.

Damn horses. Hopping around in my air boot with a broken foot dealing with all of this!!!! Xxx

<bump>

My mare was 1/10 lame on a circle near hind and just seemed to have lost her sparkle. Went to vets for investigations and was diagnosed with arthritis in her hocks, but actually there wasn't any sign of it on x ray or scan. Had cortisone injection which made no difference!
Then they nerve blocked suspensory ligament and found mild psd.
There was an option for surgery which is apparently very successful, but my insurance money had run out and the vet thought that as hers was very mild surgery wasn't really necessary.

She had 6 weeks rest and has come back completely sound. Is now in work 6 days a week, hacking, schooling and the occasional bit of jumping /xc. Vet has signed her off.

I won't be pushing her now but she seems totally happy and back to normal. Hope this gives you hope! x

I've had experience of arthritic changes and suspensory ligament problems (psd) both have a reasonably good prognosis. I had a mare operated on both hocks due to suspensory ligament and she is 100% sound and jumping and everything. I have 3 horses at my yard with bone spavin (hock arthritis). Two are in full work without treatment, though one is slightly lame and so is rested on his bad days. The mare I have here with hock arthritis is currently unridable due to complete refusal to work, though she looks completely sound, but sensors have shown she is one tenth lame in one hind. Her refusal to work may be down to ulcers that she is currently being treated for. However, she started to work again a while back after cortisone injections but they only lasted 4 months.
