Hi, Just wondering - of all those out there that have broken they're collar bones (must be a few

) how they ended up?
Has any one else got a permanently gappy painful shoulder? Or have they all healed ok?

So if this seems pointless - but just wondering what peoples experiences are

My bf fractuared hs collar bone in march. It was very slight though, he landed on it after being barged playing football. His healed well, was left for a while with a bump. He got hot burning pains fo about 4 months and hasnt had any problems sincce

Broke mine pretty well(with a couple other goodies,) when I took my horse on top of me after a jump...The surgeon didn't want to put a pin in at first( there were two jaggad points, not a good break.) He saw me every week for two months, taking x-rays, etc...

Anyway, when he finally wanted to operate, I had gone through the painful period and was back on my feet, running, doing a little work around here, and the idea of going through all that again just didn't appeal to me...

Good doctor that he was, he agreed to wait another 3 weeks. In that time I'd started working my horse again and helped a neighbor in the village, 3 stories up, replace his roof...I was never operated on. That was 4 years ago...

Normally they heal really well and really fast! I have a bump where the two bones finally glued themselves together but it doesn't bother me...

I broke mine a few years ago doing self defence (don't ask!). I was able to ride after about 10 days with the aid of painkillers and have no problems now apart from a huge lump!

Ah, looks as though I am the odd one out so far? I have a gap in my collar bone from the last break in 2001 - only they have only just noticed - despite numerous trips to drs/hosp!
There is a surgery option - but not very hopeful and sounds like a big op - bone graft to take from the hip etc. Trouble is knowing what to do - as I am always in pain with it and can only ride one handed! Got really excited when I thought it could be fixed - only the surgeon was not hopeful at all due to the amount of time that has passed

Hubby broke his - as it wasn't causing damage advice was to let it heal which it did if with a bit of a bump on it. They are supposed to be stronger once mended as the bone knits. I had my clavicle pop out by my sternum that took a long time to heal even with lots of physio!

Can they take the collar bone out? I think it is Karen Dixon that hasn't got any? Mine is pinned and plated and heeled ok although do have a non healing fracture in my leg!

Daughter fractured her collar bone when she was 8 (not falling off pony either). Took her to hospital but they didn't x-ray as they said she would be making more fuss if it was fractured! To cut it short after a few days of pain, and her cruel Mum telling her not to be a wimp and use her arm , we went to back to hospital and after x-rays it was found to be broken. It hasn't healed 100% 11 years later, bit of a lump in her shoulder and clicks sometimes but so far doesn't really cause a problem. I just hope it doesn't get arthritic as she gets older.

Broke mine and displayed it by an inch. It took six months for the ends to meet (surgeons couldn't decide whether to operate or not

). This was 7 yrs ago and I still have a large lump, it clicks and is painful if I move my left arm back, it also gets achy when the weather is cold and damp. Think this arm will always give me gyp and be painful.

I broke mine attempting to jump some haylage bales but my horse hit them and somersaulted. I had it plated a week later because it was so displaced and since then it's never bothered me.

Broke mine when i was about 12 after a fall whilst jumping. It healed ok eventually but took quite a while. I've got a fair sized lump there now though and it gives me loads of hassle in cold & damp weather, or if the weather changes suddenly.

I'm same as RichardRider, big lump on shoulder, still have, I was back at work after 4 weeks working one handed doing smaller jobs (plumbing & heating eng) bloody painfull to start with, they offered me an operation 9 weeks after I broke it, lifting all my weight on my two arms on the edge of the bed I said no thanks I will live with the pain, I dont get paid off work being self employed and only getting £50.00 a week off the state which I couldn't get till back at work wasn't much of an incentive to be off work again, anyway all I wanted to do was get back to riding, still bothers me slightly now and again.
