I have just been told that my mare has mild osteo arthritis in a front and hind fetlock and that she will need corto co-steroid injections to give some soundness.
Vet seemed to imply that she will only have one and once that has worn off that is it. I will be talking this over with him today but was wondering if there are others out there who have gone through this and what happened?

Are there other options in the future, other treatments etc that can be tried? I really don't want to give up on her if i can as she is only 9 and i'm just distraught to lose her for riding.

My horse was diagnosed with arthritis on the near hind fetlock after she had a bone chip removed. She also has PSLD and spavin on the same hind leg as well as navicular in both fronts. She had to have time off for the PSLD and because of the time off she had her shoes taken off. When she came back into work I started very slowly walking but kept the shoes off (I used hoof boots instead). I give her boswellia serrata which I think makes a difference, as well as a glucosamine and MSM supplement and micronised linseed. She is still barefoot and sound. Occasionally when she has been stabled and I take her for a hack, she shows stiffness in the fetlock, but it wears off after about 10-15 minutes. I think she had a steroid injection along with a hyaluronic acid injection in about March this year as far as I can remember.
