My horse works well on the flat in a normal snaffle, but i need more brakes whilist jumping as he can and does get too strong and then charges the jumps.

I dont want anything too much stronger as i still want to keep it as mild as possible, any experience of beval or Wilki snaffles for extra control????

I know they are used in showing a lot but that is not what i need it for i am talking showjumping??

Any help appreciated cheers x

My 17hh TB works in one of these 90% of the time (has a team up bit for dressage and a french link pelham for showing) and its the bit I have the best success with him in. He is a long, lanky horse whos natural stance is head in the air giraffe styleee :D He easily sets against you and gets upset with too much contact and with this I have found I can still have my say without a massive over reaction. He can lean as well so things like hanging cheeks, pelhams because of their fixed cheeks make the problem worse. I really like it as a bit and have used it on other horses/ponies that I have helped with as well. I use mine with a drop as he fights a grackle or a flash and he seems quite happy with the combination . If you look back on my threads I have posted a couple of vids of us jumping in it - think they are titled something like a busy but good weekend.

My horse is ridden in a Fylde wilkie all the time and goes beautifully in it....however....we tried some xc on Thursday and it didn't help with breaks or control at all I'm afraid...I'd be very surprised if this made a difference for you, but then every horse is different :)...

Hiya, my daughter has a pony in a loose ring snaffle at home, but like you needs just that bit more at a show, (and also for my peice of mind:D) She has uses a wilkie or loop ring snaffle as the seller liked to call it. It works very well for her and i like the fact its still a snaffle and im not having to put a strong bit in his mouth as he doesnt need that. She showjumps and shows in it. I have also got several teenagers at the yard who needed that extra something than a snaffle but not a gag pelham ect. for all PC activites and the wilkies have been a good investment for them to.:)

When I bought mine he was ridden in a snaffle for hacking and schooling and a Dutch gag for jumping. I felt the gag was a bit too much for him but wanted a bit more than a snaffle for jumping and I find this fills the gap between snaffle and gag perfectly.

We have B in one for show jumping and it was just the little extra that we needed. Assuming you are very near me (if you sig gives away your location!) you are welcome to try my spare which is a fylde wilkie pinchless single jointed 5.5inch?
