Just wondering - just given it another go with pony. First time had two calls. Thought I'd try once more before keeping her for the winter. The only thing that helps is that if I do keep her 'till next spring she'll be jumping newcomers by then so will go for much more!

What are your experiences this year?

Don't have any experiences yet, but am about to get one back from loan, who will have to be sold :( so will be interested to see the responses!

Ive only sold one, he was advertised from Summer last year right through to a couple of months ago, had next to no interest, one lady did leave a deposit on him (without seeing him!) & then changed her mind, the first & only people that came to see him bought him. We have another gelding advertised....to be honest i actually forgot he was advertised till i found his add on a website, obviously no interest there.
On the buying side of things we are actually in the process of looking for something now, & even though there is talk of cheap horses to be had i cant find a thing that i like in my pathetic price range, i know i could buy from the sales but im trying to stick with a private sale for now.

I sold a pony - did a rather half-baked advert in June because I sort of had to sell him because he was too small for my kids (he is 12 hands) and it was a shame for him to sit in the field, but my youngest was still sort of riding him occasionally even though his feet reach his knees. And he is such a sweet pony that I wasn't bothered if he didn't sell!

Anyway, I did the ad, forgot about it, got a call in July, they came to see him, and bought him! He went for what I thought was a good price, for the 'current economic climate' and it was a good home too, so I was happy.

I sold a Welsh Section A too, but he went to someone I knew, who always said they wanted him!

I bought one - a yearling arab - for less than his market value. I've also been offered at least four horses for free or less than £500. So far I've managed to resist those though!

Makes me sound like a right dealer - I'm not, I work with horses and I'm forever being offered them! Sometimes I can say no, and sometimes I can't!

i have had my mare and foal advertised for nearly 3 months now and had lots of enquiries and 2 views, one girl said yes she would have them only to change her mind a week later. i have them advertised at £350 which i know isnt alot but they arent worth alot as the mare is very nervous and unbroken and the foal is a colt and very nervous too. i just want a good home for them so they gonna be advertised seperately now and see what happens.

ive been looking around for very cheap youngsters but theres not really anything about in my pice range which isnt a lot!!

I have sold 5 so far this year, didnt have a choice as the yard I rented was sold without my knowledge. I made a profit on them all but not much, one I had to drop the price considerably as I had to move so he had to go, he would have been worth a lot more. However they all went to really good homes and I get regular updates formt he new owners who all seem really happy with them :)

We've got 2 up for sale at the moment.

Ones a 12.3hh Games pony, which my sister has outgrown, had a few calls, and someones coming in a week to see him. Only really half hearted advert, as he's so lovely, no one wants him to go!

Other one is a 14.2hh 7y/o Welsh Sec D, Dressage/Hack/Hunt/Teamchase Gelding. Again lovely, and need to get butt into gear to advertise him more on the Web. A few callers, one lady had me taking endless videos, pictures, etc, only to say she was actually keeping her own.

Also sort of keeping an eye open for anyone who'd be interested in my 15.2hh 5y/o event prospect. :)

So we haven't actually got anything sold yet!

My 5 yr old 15hh mare sports horse has been for sale for 2 weeks. No interest. Ad put on H&H Mon and will be in magazine this Thursday. Fingers crossed. REALLY want her gone. Everyone who's seen her ad has said it's good and for realistic price. But the market for small competition horses at the moment seems not there for me!

Advertised mine expensively last year - not much interest but we put her right at the top of her market as we weren't too bothered whether she sold or not.

This year she sold word of mouth for a little less than we'd advertised her for previously but then she'd had the winter off and although I was lunging her to get her fit she wasn't ready to go back to affiliated eventing.

Then again she was a beautifully put together little horse with stunning colouring, good bloodlines on both her Arab and TB sides, lovely nature, had been really well broken and brought on - every one who rode her commented on how even and balanced she is. She'd won at Intro on her dressage score, regularly goes DC, gets 70% dressage (and was 2nd individual at the BRC finals), represented RC at dressage, SJ and ODE and is a safe sane hacker. She'd done PC camp, been to the beach, been hacked out by my teenage daughter alone, is perfect to load and travel and will come off the lorry and stand tied up to it until required - and will happily wait there for five hours before or after she's competing if the rider has another horse competing on the same day. She's happy to live out all winter (or live in) thrives on very little feed and can happily work or hack unshod so is very cheap to run.

All that in one small package - she was only 15.1. As you can gather I was absolutely besotted by her and I'm glad to say that her new owner is just as besotted as I was.

I've tried to sell some ponies this year without much success. One that I sold for £1200 is now being readvertised by new owners for over £2200 but not yet sold.
I sold a couple of homebred 3yo welsh A geldings locally but soon after the new owner phoned to say she was having personal problems. I suggested she advertised them but a week later I offered to buy them back, albeit for half the price she paid. I must have 'mug' written on my forehead! I didn't want them going to market or worse!
I have an exmoor - free to good home! No takers yet.
2yo filly to make 16.3hh, would even swap for good doer. Several replies but usually offered a colt in exchange!
In desperation I advertise them at low prices but maybe that puts people off!
I am not a dealer but due to drought conditions and no grass I am having to cut back.
They have either been bought as yearlings or homebred. I don't breed them any more!

Horses are selling, but there are a lot out there for sale, so it is taking a little bit longer. However, good horses are still worth what they were when everyone wasw "rich" ;) I sold a lovely allrounder for a lot more than people on here valued him for last year, and he has just sold again for 50% more than I sold him for "in this economic climate" :( So if you advertise in the right place, I don't think anyone should have a problem!!

Ive brought a new pony this year and also got one on loan this year as well however pony was not advertised and got her from person who used to own my other mare. Looked at loads of horses to loan or buy none were right and not worth the money people wanted. So i ended up buying my youngster who in the future will be perfect and for now have the fun of in-hand showing with her. Plus she is related to my other mare so already know she will be a madam plus a great jumping pony not sure if thats what highlands are meant for but every one of that bloodline that i have seen or heard of seem to love jumping.

I think I had a fluke. Sold within 48hrs and had about 20 calls about her in the first 3 days all but one interested in her (I had one hell of a list of people to come see her) But I've heard it's really bad out there :/

bought one horse this year - unbacked 4yr old at a very cheap price (owner needed to sell and paid alot more for said horse as a 2yr old!)

I have bought a 3yo coloured filly in Ireland this year for a couple of hundred pounds. Has turned out to be a real saint (have only had her 2.5weeks total and despite 2weeks off in the field, she has now hbeen bitted, lunged twice and had a roller on her for the first time last night without major drama!) but it now looks likely that i will be emigrating within the next 12mths so will have to sell her in the not-so-distant future. I have seen her year older half sister advertised last week for approx £4000 (and sold within a week) sothe market for her type in this region seems to still be quite good.
