Just wanting your experiences of hind gut ulcers and why symptoms your horse presented , how
Did vets do diagnosis and tx , many thanks x

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can scope for hind gut ulcers so medication is given to see if a difference is made and then go from there

Never had experience but have read up on it before

As far as I'm aware there is no diagnostics for hind gut ulcers. Scoping just looks at stomach ulcers. I think that people go more on symptoms really. Thinking my mare may be suffering from some ulcer related problems. I've heard it said that gastroguard which is the gold standard for stomach ulcers, can make hind gut ulcers worse. She's suddenly gone very girthy and hates being groomed or touched near her belly. I've just bought some egusin SLH which is meant to be good for both stomach and hind gut ulcers.

Agree with others hind gut ulcers cannot be scoped but horses with stomach ulcers will more thsn likely have HGU too.
My girl was bloated, gassy, had foul smelling loose poo, was very sensitive around her flanks, girthy and lethargic, she dragged her hind legs and was always shifting her weight when resting.
She had 7 weeks of gastrogaurd after she was scoped and she is now a different horse.
Its now a life long management obsession where she MUST have AD LIB hay and i give her calcium bicarbonate, aloe vera juice and yea sacc.
